The Carnival of Marina di Campo, on the Island of Elba
"Carnevaliamo? Ma sì!!!" is the Carnival festival that brings a splash of color to a Sunday in February every year in Marina di Campo, the main seaside resort in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba, in the Province of Livorno (Tuscany). Organized by the Pro Loco of Campo nell'Elba in collaboration with the local administration, the event transforms Piazza Dante Alighieri into a large, open-air party space, open to everyone with free admission.
The event is designed to involve the entire town, from the youngest to the oldest. The atmosphere is the classic, carefree spirit of Carnival: masks, costumes, music, and a great desire to be together. The program includes dancing, entertainment, games for all ages, and face painting for children, who can get their faces painted and become the stars of the day.
The delicious side of the festival, essential for any proper Carnival, is not to be missed: sandwiches, fritters, frangette (traditional fried ribbons), and other seasonal delicacies accompany the festivities, along with cotton candy, popcorn, and sweets that delight the little ones. It is the perfect opportunity to enjoy Elban Carnival specialties in good company, out in the open air.
Overlooking one of the largest beaches in the Tuscan Archipelago, Marina di Campo is a popular tourist destination in summer, but in winter, it returns to the quiet rhythm of a seaside village. The Carnival is one of the events that brighten the low season and demonstrate the vitality of community life in Campo nell'Elba, where the Pro Loco plays an important role in keeping traditions alive and fostering social cohesion.
In some editions, the festival has also taken on a charitable dimension, with fundraising efforts to support those who have experienced local emergencies. It is a Carnival that, beyond the fun, knows how to be an occasion for closeness and solidarity among the island's inhabitants.
For the 2026 Carnival, the Pro Loco of Campo nell'Elba, in collaboration with the Municipality, chose the world of Alice in Wonderland as its central theme. On Sunday, February 15, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Piazza Dante Alighieri in Marina di Campo transformed into a colorful, fairytale stage for the whole family.
Characters from the famous story were the stars of the day, leading dances, entertainment moments, and games designed for both adults and children. There was also face painting for the kids and plenty of seasonal treats.
Edition theme: Alice in Wonderland.
The festival was designed to involve the entire community, from children to adults, in a magical and playful atmosphere.
