Illuminated allegorical boats parade at night on the canals of Comacchio, on a warm summer evening
The Night Summer Edition of the Carnevale sull'Acqua of Comacchio is the evening and magical version of the event that has made the town in the Po Delta, in the province of Ferrara, famous. Promoted by the Municipality of Comacchio, it takes place on a late June evening and re-proposes, under the lights of the summer night, the unique spectacle in Italy of allegorical boats parading on the water.
The heart of the evening is the illuminated allegorical boats: vessels transformed by volunteer associations into real floating stage sets, each with its own theme. At sunset, they glide lightly on the canals of the historic centre, between the famous Trepponti bridge and the alleys of the "little Venice", accompanied by music, lights, and masks. The parade is opened by the mascot Forcolina, followed by dancers, masked groups, and Carnival Ladies.
The summer edition is not just a parade: the festival continues all evening with live concerts in Piazza XX Settembre, special guests, and entertainment for all ages. The historic centre comes alive with markets, stalls, food stands, and a funfair for children, while the day ends late at night with a grand pyromusical show at the Trepponti, with fireworks set to music.
The setting is one of the most evocative in Emilia-Romagna: the historic centre of Comacchio, with its bridges, colourful houses, and the canals of the Po Delta, serves as a natural stage for a popular festival that, in its summer version, plays entirely on the nocturnal atmosphere. The illuminated boats reflected on the water and the final fireworks offer an unforgettable image of this "little Venice" of the Ferrara region.
The Night Summer Edition 2026 of the Carnevale sull'Acqua of Comacchio is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, June 27 (with a reserve for Sunday, June 28 in case of bad weather). From 8:30 PM, the historic centre of the town in the Po Delta, in the province of Ferrara, lights up for an evening of lights, music, and allegorical boats.
The stars are ten illuminated allegorical boats which, starting from the Trepponti, parade along the canals accompanied by dancers, masked groups, and Carnival Ladies. The evening also features live concerts, markets, food stands, and a funfair for children, culminating in a grand pyromusical show that closes the festival late at night.
Throughout the evening, in the historic centre: markets, stalls, food stands, and a funfair for children.
Comacchio is located in the Po Delta, in the province of Ferrara. By car, it can be reached from the Romea State Road (SS309) or from the Ferrara Sud exit of the A13 motorway, continuing towards the coast; on event evenings, it is advisable to use the car parks outside the historic centre, which is pedestrianized. The nearest train station is Ferrara, connected to Comacchio by bus; in summer, there are connections to the Lidi di Comacchio.
Admission to the event is free. The evening opens around 8:30 PM in Piazzetta Trepponti, with the parade of illuminated boats starting at 9:00 PM. As this is an outdoor evening event, it is advisable to arrive early to find a spot along the canals and wear comfortable clothing. In case of bad weather, the event may be postponed to the reserve evening: check the updated dates on the official website carnevalecomacchio.it.
