Carnival in the Villa and festive celebrations in the heart of Capurso
The Capurso Carnival is one of the most anticipated winter events in this town located in the Province of Bari, in Apulia. Every year, between the second half of February and early March, the Municipality of Capurso transforms its squares and public spaces into a large open-air stage dedicated to masks, colors, and family fun. It is a simple and authentic popular festival, far from the massive floats of more famous parades, yet capable of engaging the entire community with shows, music, and children's entertainment.
The heart of the event is the Carnival in the Villa, held in the charming Villa Comunale. The green space fills with stilt walkers, jugglers, magic shows, and mascots inspired by the world of fairytales: little ones can meet their favorite characters, sing, dance, and get swept up in a grand masquerade party. There is no shortage of popcorn, cotton candy, and games that make the afternoon even more delightful. In case of bad weather, the event moves to the nearby Pala Livatino, ensuring the party goes on.
The program continues at the D'Addosio Municipal Library, which hosts Carnival Festivities, an afternoon of dancing, games, and entertainment designed for children. The organization involves numerous local associations that collaborate with the Municipality to offer workshops, play sessions, and creative activities. The Carnival is, in fact, part of the broader winter calendar of the Municipality of Capurso, rich in cultural initiatives, author meetings, concerts, and events for all ages.
The Capurso Carnival is a free, participatory, and family-friendly event that highlights the sense of community and Apulian folk traditions. Amidst colorful masks, street performances, and entertainment, it is the perfect opportunity to experience the festive atmosphere of the Capurso winter and discover a town that, beyond the famous Sanctuary of the Madonna del Pozzo, knows how to welcome its visitors with warmth and joy.
The 2026 Capurso Carnival took place on February 15 and 16, as part of the winter calendar promoted by the Municipality. The highlight was the Carnival in the Villa on Sunday, February 15, starting at 4:00 PM in the Villa Comunale.
The afternoon treated families to stilt walkers, jugglers, magic shows, and mascots inspired by the world of fairytales, with children having the chance to meet their favorite characters amidst singing and dancing. To complete the party, there was popcorn, cotton candy, and games. The festivities continued on Monday, February 16, with Carnival Festivities at the library, dedicated to children with dances, games, and entertainment thanks to the support of local associations.
