The weekend that launches the summer season between Capannoli and Santo Pietro Belvedere, featuring music, historical archery, trekking, and open-air theatre.
Capannoli Summer Kick-off is the weekend that inaugurates the summer season in the Municipality of Capannoli, a small town nestled in the green Alta Valdera, in the province of Pisa, Tuscany. For two days, events are distributed between the main town and the charming hilltop village of Santo Pietro Belvedere, offering a taste of the busy calendar of initiatives that will bring the area to life until September.
The offering weaves together different genres and styles: long-standing choral music, the re-enactment of historical archery in the medieval centre, hiking through the Valdera hills, and experimental outdoor theatre. It is a formula that enhances both the social and popular dimension of the village festival and the focus on the landscape and the natural and historical heritage of the Municipality.
A large part of the events takes place in Santo Pietro Belvedere, a hamlet of Capannoli perched on a hill, with the medieval church of San Pietro, the panoramic Piazza Belvedere, and the Parco della Castellina, the highest and coolest point of the village, where an ancient Etruscan acropolis is thought to have stood. This setting, suspended between history and nature, provides the backdrop for the archery tournament and the evening theatre show.
Capannoli is a municipality in the Province of Pisa, in the Alta Valdera territory characterized by rolling hills. In addition to summer events, the town is home to Villa Baciocchi with its park and civic museums, including the Zoological Museum. The summer festival, largely free of charge, is promoted by the Municipality of Capannoli together with local associations, from choirs to theatre companies and archers, and is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Tuscany far from the main tourist flows.
The opening weekend of summer 2026 in Capannoli combined music, tradition, sport, and theatre between the main town and the village of Santo Pietro Belvedere. It opened on Saturday evening with a choral concert in Piazza della Repubblica and continued on Sunday with a historical archery tournament in the medieval centre, a hike through the Valdera hills, and an open-air theatre show dedicated to biodiversity.
Capannoli can be reached by car from the FI-PI-LI highway (Pontedera exit), continuing along the Valdera road. The reference train station is Pontedera-Casciana Terme, from where you can continue by bus or car. Santo Pietro Belvedere is located a few kilometres from the main town, on a hill.
Most events are free to attend. For the theatre performance at Parco della Castellina, booking is mandatory. For information: Municipality of Capannoli, tel. +39 0587 606611.
