About Cantine Aperte San Lorenzo Vini

Every year on the last weekend of May, the San Lorenzo Vini estate in Castilenti opens its doors for Cantine Aperte, the major wine festival promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Abruzzo. Amidst the vineyards of Contrada Plavignano, in the province of Teramo, visitors enjoy an "open cellar" tour through vines, olive groves, and farmhouses, featuring wine tastings, live music, DJ sets, folklore, and traditional craft demonstrations in a convivial atmosphere that celebrates wine tourism, art, and the Abruzzo landscape.

Cantine Aperte at San Lorenzo Vini

Cantine Aperte is Italy's most renowned wine tourism event. Promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, it opens hundreds of wineries across the country to the public every year on the last weekend of May. In Abruzzo, the initiative is coordinated by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Abruzzo and involves dozens of estates across the region's five wine-growing territories: Colline Teramane, Terre dei Vestini, Terre Aquilane, Casauria, and Colline Teatine.

Among the key participants is the San Lorenzo Vini estate in Castilenti, in the province of Teramo, in the heart of the Colline Teramane. Winemakers since 1890 and a professional estate since 1997, the family has been cultivating vines for five generations across a 220-hectare property, 160 of which are under vine, situated on hills between 250 and 350 meters above sea level. The cellar produces both local and international varieties—from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo to Trebbiano, and from Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo to Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah—with a strong focus on regional DOC and DOCG designations.

An itinerant journey through vines, wine, and music

At San Lorenzo Vini, Cantine Aperte is more than just a tasting; it is a truly immersive experience. The heart of the event is the itinerant tour: guests walk "glass in hand" along rolling hills, through rows of vines, olive groves, and cypress trees, stopping at the estate's farmhouses where the best house wines are paired with local flavors. Along the way, visitors can enjoy concerts, live music, DJ sets, folk performances, treasure hunts, and demonstrations of ancient crafts, with attractions designed for both adults and children.

  • Itinerant tour through vineyards and farmhouses with house wine tastings
  • Gastronomic pairings with traditional Teramo flavors
  • Live music, concerts, and DJ sets among the vines
  • Folklore performances, traditional crafts, and activities for families and children

The setting: Wine tourism in the Colline Teramane

Participating in Cantine Aperte is a perfect opportunity to discover not only the wines but also the landscape of the Teramo hinterland: Castilenti is located in the hilly belt between the Gran Sasso massif and the Adriatic Sea, the production area for the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG. It is a territory where Abruzzo's winemaking tradition intertwines with rural culture, the villages of the Val Fino, and the natural beauty of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park.
