Wineries in Gattinara, Ghemme, and the Alto Piemonte region open their doors to wine tourism
Cantine Aperte is Italy's most renowned wine tourism event, promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, reaching its 34th national edition in 2026. For an entire weekend, Italian wineries open their doors to visitors, transforming a vineyard visit into a direct, personal experience with the producers. In Piedmont, the event is coordinated by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Piemonte, and in Alto Piemonte, it spans the volcanic territory surrounding Gattinara, in the heart of the Vercelli province, and Ghemme, on the Novara side.
The absolute stars of the Alto Piemonte edition are the wines made from Nebbiolo, locally called Spanna, which achieve unmistakable finesse and elegance on these volcanic and morainic soils:
The 2026 edition focuses on the "Wine Experience" concept: wineries go beyond simple cellar tastings, offering activities designed for everyone. The Piedmontese proposals include picnics among the rows, traditional merende sinoire (afternoon snacks), jeep and e-bike tours through the vineyards, sensory paths, masterclasses and guided vertical tastings, creative workshops blending art and wine, panoramic brunches, gourmet street food, and moments of relaxation in nature.
In Ghemme, several historic estates open their cellars, including those located within the ancient fortified ricetto, while in Gattinara, the Enoteca Regionale serves as a key reference point for exploring the local denomination. Participating wineries manage their own schedules, experiences, and rates independently.
Visiting these wineries during this weekend means connecting with a side of Piedmont that is less known than the Langhe, yet possesses extraordinary character: hills sculpted by vines, wine-growing villages, and a production tradition that makes Gattinara and Alto Piemonte one of the most interesting areas in the Italian wine scene. The event is the ideal occasion to combine wine discovery with the exploration of the landscapes and small towns of the Vercelli and Novara provinces.
On the weekend of May 30-31, 2026, wineries in Alto Piemonte participated in the 34th edition of Cantine Aperte, promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino Piemonte. Between Gattinara, Ghemme, and neighboring towns, producers offered guided tastings of great Spanna-based reds, vineyard picnics, tours, and numerous activities centered on the "Wine Experience" theme.
Booking was mandatory, and each winery independently managed its own schedules, experiences, and rates, as part of a journey designed to provide an up-close look at the volcanic territory and the wines of Gattinara and Alto Piemonte.
A program spread across participating wineries in the territory (Gattinara, Ghemme, and Alto Piemonte): guided tastings, vertical tastings and masterclasses, picnics and snacks among the rows, jeep and e-bike tours through the vineyards, sensory paths, workshops blending art and wine, panoramic brunches, and gourmet street food. Each winery defined its own experiences and schedules.
The last weekend of May, Saturday and Sunday. In 2026, the dates are May 30th and 31st.
Booking is generally mandatory: it is recommended to consult the list of participating wineries, choose your preferred experiences, and contact the estates directly to reserve. Schedules, experiences, and prices are set by each individual winery.
A list of wineries and further details are available on the website of the Movimento Turismo del Vino Piemonte (mtvpiemonte.it) and the Consorzio Tutela Nebbioli Alto Piemonte. For Gattinara, the Enoteca Regionale is also a useful reference.
Gattinara (VC) can be reached by car via the A4 motorway (Vercelli/Biella exits) and the SS142 road; the Gattinara train station is on the Santhià –Arona line. The wineries are distributed between Gattinara, Ghemme, and neighboring towns in the Alto Piemonte region.
