About Poetry Village

In the green heart of the Appia Antica Regional Park, Poetry Village transforms the Caffarella Valley into a village of words for three days every September. Readings, live music, theatrical performances, workshops, and a Poetry Slam hosted by Spoken Roma weave together poetry, nature, and ecology. Over sixty literary voices gather at the Casa del Parco, just a stone's throw from the Appio Latino district, for a free festival that celebrates the art of slow living and deep listening.

A village of poetry in the Appia Antica Park

Poetry Village is the European environmental poetry festival that brings the Caffarella Valley to life every September. Located in one of the most evocative green lungs of Rome, in the VII Municipality near the Appio Latino district, the festival takes place at the Casa del Parco regionale dell'Appia Antica. Accessible from Largo Tacchi Venturi, the park's meadows, trees, and ancient ruins provide a natural backdrop for a dense program of literature, music, and theater.

Poetry, nature, and ecology

Founded in 2023, the festival focuses on the relationship between poetic language and the environment: poetry is presented as a "miracle of existence" and a tool for slowing down, capable of reconnecting art, nature, and community. Each edition brings together over sixty voices from the Italian and international literary scene, with a perspective that extends to European poetry and its diverse traditions.

What to expect at the festival

  • Readings and meetings with established poets and new voices;
  • Poetry Labs: intimate dialogues between the audience and the authors;
  • Poetry Slam organized by the Spoken Roma collective, a competitive performance poetry event;
  • Concerts and musical performances that blend words and sound;
  • Nature-theater shows and staged readings;
  • Workshops on writing and video-poetry, including sessions for children and teenagers;
  • The Poetry Corner, where anyone can record their own reading, along with various photographic exhibitions.

A free and convivial festival

Admission is free, and the festival maintains a convivial atmosphere: at the Casa del Parco, you can enjoy dinner with dedicated menus and browse through the bookstore featuring works by the guest authors. Poetry Village is organized by Saperenetwork in collaboration with the Comitato per il Parco della Caffarella Odv, the associations Terra Insieme and Humus Ets, and the VII Municipality of Rome, with the patronage of the Appia Antica Regional Park.

Why it's worth the trip

In a city where cultural events are counted by the dozen, Poetry Village offers a rare experience: listening to poetry outdoors, immersed in a historic park in the Lazio region, far from the noise of the city center. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the Caffarella and experience Rome from a slow, green, and community-oriented perspective.

Poetry Village — edition 2026

From September 10 to 12, 2026, Poetry Village returns to the Caffarella Valley for its fourth edition. Three days of poetry, music, theater, and workshops in the Appia Antica Regional Park, featuring the traditional Poetry Slam by Spoken Roma. The festival maintains its free, open-air format with readings, author meet-and-greets, and performances immersed in nature.

Poetry Village 2026 - Fourth edition
