Walking in "The Betrothed"

The Camminata Manzoniana is one of Lecco's most beloved events: a non-competitive walk that winds through the places that inspired Alessandro Manzoni for his masterpiece, I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed). Lecco, a city on the eastern branch of Lake Como, is indeed the geographical heart of the novel, and walking its paths means reliving the steps of Renzo and Lucia through historic districts, churches, villas, and lake views.

Three routes for everyone

The event offers three itineraries of varying length and difficulty, suitable for every level of fitness:

• Blue Route — 5.5 km, a short walk suitable for families
• Orange Route — 11 km, medium difficulty
• Red Route — 20 km, the complete trail for the fittest

The start is from Piazzale Meridiana, with registration in the early morning hours and staggered departures.

Literature and theatre along the way

What makes the Camminata Manzoniana unique is its cultural dimension: along the routes, actors and extras present historical reenactments and theatrical performances in the symbolic locations of the novel, transforming the walk into a journey through time. This is why it has been defined as the most artistic walk in Italy.

A territorial event

Organized by Lecchese Turismo Manifestazioni, the Camminata Manzoniana gathers about four thousand participants each year and represents a fixed autumn event in Lecco, capable of combining gentle sport, culture, and the enhancement of the landscape of the Province of Lecco and the Lombardy Region.
