A Carnival spanning two towns

The Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini Carnival is an event that unites two adjacent towns in the Sicani Mountains, in the province of Agrigento, Sicily. Separated by only a few steps and a long shared history, the two centers come together every year to create a unique festival that enlivens the month of February with parades, music, and vibrant colors. It is one of the most anticipated events in the winter calendar of the Agrigento hinterland.

Allegorical floats and masked groups

The heart of the festival is the parade of allegorical floats, built over the preceding months by local associations, youth groups, and master papier-mâché artists. Alongside the floats, masked groups parade through the streets, often inspired by satirical, fairy-tale, or current themes, featuring meticulously crafted costumes and choreography. The participation of schools, parishes, and families makes the event deeply rooted in the community.

Entertainment, music, and awards

Beyond the parades, the program includes shows, entertainment, and dance parties in the squares of both towns. The festival culminates in a grand final awards ceremony, where prizes are given to the most beautiful and original floats and masked groups, as decided by a jury and the enthusiasm of the crowd. The atmosphere is that of a typical Sicilian village carnival: cheerful, colorful, and highly participatory.
