Dinner, wine, and music among the lavender rows of Viguzzolo
Calici & Lavanda is the summer food and wine event held in the lavender field of Strada Castelletto, in Viguzzolo, a small town in the province of Alessandria at the foot of the Colli Tortonesi, in Piedmont. The concept is simple and evocative: dining outdoors at sunset, between the purple rows of blooming lavender, with a glass of fine wine and musical accompaniment. It is one of the most anticipated evenings of the local summer, organized by the Pro Loco of Viguzzolo.
The lavender field in Viguzzolo has been cultivated by nurseryman Giancarlo Nossa since 2007 and has become a small attraction over the years, drawing curious visitors and photographers from across the region. Between mid-June and late July, the rows turn purple and scent the air, offering views reminiscent of Provence: this is why Viguzzolo is now known as the "Piedmontese Provence." Calici & Lavanda was created to experience this landscape in a convivial setting, when the warm sunset light enhances the colors of the field.
The evening's menu features traditional dishes: from agnolotti, a symbol of Piedmontese cuisine, to hamburgers, and desserts to round off the meal. The table is served with Derthona wine from the Cantina di Tortona, made from the Timorasso grape, the pride of the Colli Tortonesi wine scene. The preparation involves several local businesses, such as Macelleria Semino, Il Forno della Nonna, and La Bottega, confirming the event's deep roots in the town's fabric.
Musical entertainment is provided by DJ CAPPE, who accompanies the dinner and the evening with his selection. The atmosphere is that of an informal and festive Piedmontese village fair, outdoors and in touch with nature, ideal for families, groups of friends, and visitors looking for an authentic experience in the heart of the Colli Tortonesi.
