The board game and gaming culture fair in Calenzano
Calenzano in Gioco is a fair dedicated to board games, role-playing games, and contemporary gaming culture held in Calenzano, a town in the Florentine Plain in the province of Florence, Tuscany. Created to provide a permanent meeting point for the local gaming community, the event transforms the ST.ART Spazio Eventi on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi into a large gaming space spanning over 1,500 square meters.
For two full days, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the public can move freely between the various areas of the fair. The heart of the event consists of demo tables, where you can try out dozens of board and role-playing games with the help of experts, and the card game area featuring tournaments and demonstrations. There is also a rich trade show with industry exhibitors, shops, and artisans, as well as a second-hand game market where you can swap and purchase titles at affordable prices.
Alongside the games themselves, Calenzano in Gioco offers a cultural program with conferences and talks dedicated to the gaming world, as well as a photo contest with a final awards ceremony. The event involves numerous local gaming associations, publishers, and exhibitors, establishing itself as a meeting point for enthusiasts of all ages.
The event is designed to be accessible to everyone: families with children, groups of friends, expert players, and the simply curious. The presence of a food area allows you to spend the entire day at the fair between one game and the next. Admission is free, in line with the inclusive and participatory spirit of the event.
Located just a few kilometers from Florence and well-connected to Prato and Sesto Fiorentino, Calenzano is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Florence that has invested heavily in the cultural animation of its territory in recent years. Calenzano in Gioco is part of this journey, bringing to Tuscany an event that promotes gaming as a tool for social cohesion and community growth.
The inaugural 2026 edition of Calenzano in Gioco attracted approximately 1,400 visitors over the weekend of April 11-12. The event involved 11 gaming associations (including Gilda dei Bibliogiocatori, Kraken, and GiocaconIsa), 26 exhibitors including shops and artisans, and one publisher.
Great emphasis was placed on board games, with 29 tables active simultaneously and hundreds of games played daily, and on role-playing games, which drew over 170 participants across 36 sessions. The second-hand game market saw the sale of more than 120 titles.
The cultural program featured 8 conferences and talks, including "Gioco alla Potenza" and "Talk or Stalk", as well as the photo contest sponsored by tuttofoto.com, which gathered 27 participants and 88 votes. The event was organized by the Calenzano Tourist Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Calenzano and CSEN Florence.
