The widespread festival of Italian artistic and artisan ceramics
Buongiorno Ceramica is the great widespread festival dedicated to Italian artistic and artisan ceramics, promoted by AiCC - Associazione Italiana Città della Ceramica (Italian Association of Ceramic Cities) and simultaneously involving about 60 Municipalities with established ceramic traditions throughout Italy, with over 500 events in a single weekend. Faenza, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna and in the province of Ravenna, is not just one of the stops on the event: it is the pilot city and the seat of AiCC, the place that gave its name to the world-renowned earthenware (faïence).
Throughout the weekend, Faenza's ceramic artists open the doors of the magical places of ceramic making to the public: historic workshops, ateliers, schools, laboratories, and art galleries where ceramics are conceived and created every day. The historic center transforms into an open-air path featuring demonstrations on the potter's wheel, performances, exhibitions, and workshops for adults and children, designed to let visitors touch clay and discover the secrets of an ancient craft that is still very much alive in Faenza.
Among the most beloved moments are the Ceramic Maker's Breakfast and the Ceramic Maker's Aperitif: morning coffee and good local wine are served in cups and glasses handcrafted by Faenza's ceramic workshops. It's the most convivial way to experience the event, turning every daily gesture into a small tribute to the local craftsmanship.
The Faenza program involves the city's major institutions. At the MIC - International Museum of Ceramics, one of the world's most important of its kind, guided tours of the collections and current temporary exhibitions are held. The Carlo Zauli Museum offers artist-led workshops, exhibition finissages, book presentations, and days dedicated to dialogue between different ceramic cities, confirming the event's contemporary and network-oriented vocation.
Buongiorno Ceramica showcases ceramics as an identity heritage, artisan knowledge, and contemporary creativity. For the public, it's the ideal opportunity to discover from within the tradition that has made Faenza and the entire Emilia-Romagna region famous, meet the artists, witness the creation of a work, and take home a unique piece. A free, accessible, and family-friendly event that confirms the role of the Municipality of Faenza as the Italian capital of ceramics each year.
The 2026 edition of Buongiorno Ceramica in Faenza, the twelfth since the event's inception, was held on May 23rd and 24th, 2026. For two days, the historic center hosted special openings of workshops, laboratories, and exhibitions, with live demonstrations and activities for families and children.
Among the events, the MIC - International Museum of Ceramics offered a guided tour of the exhibition Alchimia Ginori with the curators, while the Carlo Zauli Museum dedicated a day to the city of Montelupo Fiorentino, featuring a workshop by artist Shilha Cintelli, the finissage of the exhibition Alchimie in Ceramica, and the presentation of the book Immersioni by Patrizio Bartoloni. The unmissable Ceramic Maker's Breakfast and Ceramic Maker's Aperitif, organized by Ente Ceramica Faenza, served coffee and wine in ceramic creations from Faenza's workshops.
Faenza is located along the Via Emilia, in the province of Ravenna. By train, Faenza station is on the Bologna-Rimini-Ancona line, a few minutes' walk from the historic center. By car, take the Faenza exit from the A14 Bologna-Taranto motorway. The nearest airports are Bologna (BLQ), Forlì, and Rimini.
The event takes place over the weekend, with workshops, ateliers, and museums open during the day. Admission to the widespread events is free; some activities (workshops, guided tours, museum entries) may require booking or a small fee. The complete and updated program is published on buongiornoceramica.it and enteceramica.it.
Wear comfortable shoes for walking through the workshops in the center and book the most popular workshops in advance. Take the opportunity to visit the MIC and taste the typical Romagna products in the streets of the center.
