The Pro Loco carnival lunch featuring canederli, luganica, and grostoli in Val di Non
The Bresimo Carnival Lunch is one of the most authentic Carnival events in the Val di Non, in the Autonomous Province of Trento. Organized by the Pro Loco of Bresimo, the event transforms the Sala Polivalente on Via Fontana Nuova into a large banquet where the village gathers to share traditional Trentino mountain dishes, amidst masks and cheer.
Bresimo is a small village of just over two hundred inhabitants, nestled at an altitude of over a thousand meters at the foot of the Maddalene, in one of the most authentic and least touristy valleys in Trentino. This intimate scale makes the carnival lunch a true community moment, where guests and residents sit side by side.
The absolute star is the traditional cuisine of Val di Non: canederli (bread dumplings, the symbol of alpine dining), luganica (the local sausage), borlotti beans, and, to finish on a sweet note, grostoli—the fragrant Carnival fritters dusted with powdered sugar that are a must-have in Trentino during this time of year.
Everything is offered at a symbolic price, designed to encourage participation from everyone: families, groups of friends, and passing visitors. It is not a large-scale gastronomic event, but a sincere village lunch that serves as a genuine local life experience.
Bresimo's bond with Carnival is not new: in the past, the village was already known for the «Canederli and masks in the square» initiative, featuring a traditional lunch followed by a parade of children in costume. Today, the Pro Loco continues to uphold this spirit, including the event in the broader Val di Non Carnival calendar, which brings dozens of valley villages to life during the festive weeks with lunches, parades, and masquerade parties.
Attending the Bresimo Carnival Lunch means discovering an off-the-beaten-path corner of Trentino and experiencing Carnival as the valley locals truly do: without frills, around a table laden with mountain flavors.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Pro Loco of Bresimo hosted the traditional Carnival Lunch at the Sala Polivalente on Via Fontana Nuova 1, starting at 12:00 PM.
The menu brought the signature dishes of the Trentino Carnival to the table: canederli, luganica, borlotti, and, for dessert, grostoli. The cost of the lunch was only 5 euros per person, confirming the convivial and popular spirit of the initiative, open to both residents and visitors.
