An afternoon dedicated to Bramaterra DOC wine at the Bramaterra Museum in Sostegno
In the small town of Sostegno, in the Province of Biella, the Bramaterra Museum—housed in the charming hamlet of Casa del Bosco—becomes the stage for "Bramaterra: The Pride of Our Origins," a meeting that celebrates one of Piedmont's most distinctive wines. This event, blending culture and gastronomy, explores the history, identity, and future of a niche wine documented as far back as the 15th century.
Bramaterra is a Controlled Designation of Origin wine produced on the hills straddling the provinces of Biella and Vercelli, on porphyritic soils at the foot of Monte Rosa. The wine is crafted from Nebbiolo grapes (locally known as Spanna), blended with Croatina, Vespolina, and Uva Rara, and is renowned for its elegance, longevity, and deep connection to the land. The production area includes the municipalities of Sostegno, Masserano, Brusnengo, Curino, and Villa del Bosco in the Biella area, as well as Roasio and Lozzolo in the Vercelli area.
The event, held in the afternoon, features a series of talks coordinated by the Il Boggio Cultural Association:
The Bramaterra Museum, set up in an ancient renovated building in Casa del Bosco, preserves wine presses, crushers, vats, oak barrels, demijohns, flasks, and numerous tools of the peasant and winemaking tradition. A visit allows you to understand the hard work and wisdom that have accompanied wine production in this corner of Piedmont for centuries.
"Bramaterra: The Pride of Our Origins" is a precious opportunity for those who want to discover a rare wine and an authentic territory, far from the most crowded wine tourism circuits. Through history, culture, and tasting, the event tells the story of a community that passionately guards its winemaking roots.
The April 19, 2026 edition opened at 4:00 PM at the Bramaterra Museum in Casa del Bosco, Sostegno. The day brought together producers, scholars, and administrators from six municipalities of the district (Lozzolo, Sostegno, Curino, Villa del Bosco, Roasio, and Brusnengo) around the prestigious local wine, which has been documented since 1447.
Speakers included Dr. Lorenzo Ceruti, members of the Antoniotti family—with Odilio and Mattia, guardians of a century-old winemaking tradition—and the presentation "Stories of Land and Wine" by the Il Boggio Cultural Association. The event concluded with a tasting of wines from the participating wineries.
