Apulian rosé wines in the historic center of Castellana Grotte
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Borgo Rosato is the food and wine festival that enlivens the historic center of Castellana Grotte, in the province of Bari, in the heart of Apulia, every summer. For two evenings, the old town, adorned with traditional illuminations, turns into a tasting trail that guides visitors through the local food and wine excellence, with one absolute star: Apulian rosé wine.
The format revolves around local wineries, which set up their stations among the squares and alleys of the village. Strolling with a glass in hand, you can taste labels from producers such as Terrecarsiche, La Pruina, Spelonga, and Conti Zecca, featuring rosés made from native Apulian grape varieties like Primitivo and Negramaro. The rosé, the iconic wine of the Southern summer, thus becomes the common thread of a slow walk among white stones, churches, and courtyards.
Alongside the wine, food stalls offer traditional dishes prepared on the spot: bombette alla brace, fresh pasta, cured meats, cheeses, and fritters. There is no shortage of local craft displays, featuring ceramics, jewelry, and textiles, as well as floral installations decorating squares and portals. Live music, provided by local bands and ensembles, along with street artists, jugglers, and fire performers, creates a warm and festive atmosphere, turning every corner of the village into a meeting point.
During the evenings, free guided tours are organized to discover the streets and squares of the old town of Castellana Grotte, departing from the Church of Santa Maria del Suffragio (Purgatorio). The tours are open and do not require reservations, allowing visitors to learn about the history and traditions of the Murgia town, famous worldwide for the nearby Grotte di Castellana.
Borgo Rosato is organized by the Municipality of Castellana Grotte together with Grotte di Castellana srl, as part of the rich summer program Piazze d'Estate. Admission is free. The event combines the promotion of Apulian wine production with the rediscovery of the historic center, offering residents and tourists an evening of taste, culture, and conviviality in the heart of the Province of Bari.
The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. Historically, Borgo Rosato takes place in August: we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Castellana Grotte and the Piazze d'Estate festival for the updated program.
