The festival of books and author encounters in Venosa
Borgo d'Autore is the festival that transforms Venosa, the birthplace of the Latin poet Horace, into a grand literary salon. Hosted in the spaces of the Pirro del Balzo Castle, the event offers dozens of appointments including book presentations, author encounters, art exhibitions, workshops for the little ones, and moments to promote reading.
The festival, organized by Artistica Management with the support of the Municipality of Venosa, ranges across many themes: society, politics, economy, enhancement of the territory and local identities, historical memory, migrations, geopolitics, school, science, poetry, and comics. Recent editions have featured prominent figures such as former Prime Minister Enrico Letta, Rai journalist Domenico Iannacone, and journalist Floriana Bulfon.
The castle hosts most of the author encounters, the book fair, and the exhibitions, while the village comes alive with collateral events. All events are free admission, with the aim of accessible and shared culture. The event also takes place concurrently with the 'Fiera dei Sapori del Sud Italia' (Flavors of Southern Italy Fair), creating a long weekend that combines culture and food and wine.
It's hard to imagine a more suitable setting for a book festival: Venosa, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, is the homeland of Horace and preserves a historical and archaeological heritage of extraordinary value, from the Abbey of the Most Holy Trinity to the Archaeological Park.
The 6th edition of Borgo d'Autore is scheduled from May 29 to June 2, 2026, at the Pirro del Balzo Castle in Venosa. Five days with 49 free events including book presentations, author encounters, art exhibitions, and workshops for children.
The 2026 program addresses themes ranging from society to politics, from economy to local identities, from historical memory to migrations, from geopolitics to science, up to poetry and comics.
