About Boccioleto Summer

Throughout August, Boccioleto, a small village in the Valsermenza valley in the province of Vercelli, comes alive with a packed calendar of events blending patronal feasts, sporting competitions, dance evenings, and mountain traditions. The highlight is the Moline Festival, dedicated to the hamlet of the same name, which on August 13th brings together locals and summer visitors amidst the ancient stone and beola-roofed houses of Valsesia.

A summer of tradition in the heart of Valsermenza

The Boccioleto Summer is a festival that animates the small town of Boccioleto throughout August. Nestled in the Valsermenza valley—a side valley of Valsesia carved by the Sermenza and Cavaione streams—in the province of Vercelli, in the heart of Piedmont. For four weeks, the village squares and its numerous hamlets—Moline, Fervento, Genestreto, Casetti, Oro, Solivo, and others—transform into stages for feasts, patronal masses, competitions, and social gatherings that celebrate the identity of this historic alpine community.

The Moline Festival

The flagship event of the festival, the Moline Festival, takes place on August 13th in the hamlet of Moline. It is one of those quintessential village celebrations that keeps the bond alive between residents, returning emigrants, and summer visitors, gathering people of all ages among the typical Valsesian architecture with its characteristic loggias and stone-tiled roofs.

The August Program

The calendar, curated by the Pro Loco of Boccioleto, offers nearly daily events throughout the month:

  • August 2 – Vertical Kilometer Boccioleto-Alpe Seccio "Tasso Claudio Memorial" and Scopa card tournament at the picnic area
  • August 3 – Feast of San Lorenzo at Alpe Seccio
  • August 8 – Photography contest awards and dinner with the "Fish Magician" in Fervento
  • August 9 – Feast of San Lorenzo in Fervento
  • August 13 – Moline Festival
  • August 15 – Traditional Ferragosto Tombola, 9:00 PM
  • August 16 – Holy Mass of San Rocco in Fervento
  • August 17 – Miacciata in the square and dance evening
  • August 24 – Feast of Sant'Andrea in Genestreto and ladder competition at the picnic area
  • August 25 – Pizza in the square and live music
  • August 30 – Closing evening in memory

Mountain flavors and traditions

Alongside religious celebrations and competitions, the festival showcases traditional Valsesian flavors: the miacciata in the square, gastronomic evenings in the hamlets, and social moments are an integral part of the celebration, as are the live music and dancing that conclude many evenings. An authentic opportunity to discover a corner of alpine Piedmont far from the major tourist flows.
