A hike through woods and music along the Blues Trail, in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Canavese
In Borgiallo, a tiny village of about 600 inhabitants nestled in the Sacred Valley of the Canavese, in the Province of Turin, the blues truly feels at home. The Blues Walk is a guided excursion that takes you along the Blues Trail, a thematic loop path created by the Diversa Mente association, the driving force behind the Borgiallo Blues Festival. It is an experience that weaves the pleasure of walking with the history of one of the world's most universal musical genres.
The route winds through the woods above the village for about 3.5 km, with a gentle elevation gain that makes it suitable for everyone, including families. It alternates between forest paths and short paved sections, and is accessible on foot or by mountain bike with appropriate equipment. Along the route, you will find several listening stations equipped with QR codes: by scanning them with your smartphone, you can listen to audio content about the history and nuances of the blues, narrated by music journalist Edoardo Fassio.
The Blues Walk is more than just a hike: it is a way to discover a territory and a community that has made music a hallmark of its identity. The 2026 edition was part of the Terre di Saperi e Mestieri (Lands of Knowledge and Crafts) project, funded by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation through the Territori in Luce call for proposals, with Vidracco as the lead partner and Borgiallo participating alongside Castellamonte, the Consortium of Tourism Operators of the Canavese Valleys, the Casa del Movimento Lento, and Cinemambiente Turin.
Upon returning from the hike, participants visit the Blues Corner set up in the municipal library, a true 'Libroteca' (book-library) that houses thousands of volumes, including a section dedicated to the blues with titles sourced from the University of Mississippi. The day concludes with the Aperiblues, a convivial aperitif that brings together residents, hikers, and enthusiasts from out of town. An authentic gathering that tells the story of the Sacred Valley and the Canavese through its passions.
The 2026 edition of the Blues Walk took place on Sunday, March 29, with a meeting point at Piazza Severino Trucano in Borgiallo. About 60 people walked the 3.5 km loop of the Blues Trail, accompanied by environmental hiking guide Roberta Ferraris, a journalist and illustrator, and Alberto Conte, founder of Itineraria and an expert on walking paths.
The initiative was part of the Terre di Saperi e Mestieri project (July 2025 - March 2026), supported by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation through the Territori in Luce call for proposals, with Vidracco as the lead partner. The Mayor of Borgiallo, Franca Cargnello, and the Mayor of Vidracco, Antonio Bernini, were present at the event. After the visit to the Blues Corner in the municipal library and an presentation of the project, the event closed with the convivial Aperiblues.
Borgiallo is located in the Sacred Valley, in the Canavese area (Province of Turin). By car, it can be reached from Turin in about an hour; the usual meeting point is the square in front of the Town Hall (Piazza Severino Trucano).
A loop of approximately 3.5 km, with a gentle elevation gain and easy difficulty. Trekking shoes, water, and clothing suitable for the season are recommended. The trail is also accessible independently all year round thanks to the QR code stations.
The guided excursion requires registration; visits to the Libroteca with the Blues Corner are possible during the municipal library's opening hours. For information, please contact the Municipality of Borgiallo.
