Assisi becomes a grand fairy tale

Birba chi legge - Festa delle Storie is the storytelling festival for children and teens in Assisi, in the province of Perugia. For a long weekend in September, the city transforms into a living book: stories come out of the pages and "invade" squares, alleys, gardens, and the symbolic places of the historic centre, from the Rocca to the Roman Forum, from the Crypt of San Rufino to Monte Frumentario, up to the Bosco di San Francesco.

Stories in all forms

The festival offers stories read, narrated, sung, danced, drawn, and dramatised: travelling shows and children's theatre, creative and musical workshops, literary walks, book presentations, meetings with authors and illustrators, and training seminars for teachers and operators. A programme designed to engage children, teens, families, and enthusiasts of all ages.

A cultural project for the city

Conceived and organised by the Birba association in collaboration with the Municipality of Assisi and with the support of the Fondazione Perugia, the festival promotes reading as a shared and joyful experience, while at the same time enhancing the historical and artistic heritage of Assisi, which becomes the natural setting for the tales. Among the events is also the award ceremony for the national competition "A library in every school".
