The Olympic distance triathlon on the Bellaria-Igea Marina Riviera
Every year, in mid-June, the BIM Olympic Gold Triathlon brings one of the most anticipated events on the regional FITRI calendar to the Romagna Riviera. The race takes place in Bellaria-Igea Marina, in the province of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna, and attracts about a thousand athletes, both competitive and amateur, from all over Italy. The distance is the Olympic one, the most classic and spectacular in triathlon: it starts with swimming in the sea, continues on the bike, and concludes with a run along the coast.
The race begins in the water, in front of the Piazzale Capitaneria di Porto, with a 1500-meter swim in the Adriatic Sea. This is followed by the 40-kilometer cycling leg, raced on a circuit completely closed to traffic and to be repeated three times, to ensure maximum safety for the athletes. The race concludes with a 10-kilometer run, which also passes through the Parco del Gelso, offering participants and spectators a scenery that alternates between the sea and the city's green spaces. To host the event, the Municipality implements a revised traffic plan, with the closure of the seafront and numerous streets in the center.
The weekend is not just about stopwatches and rankings. On the Saturday preceding the race, the Family Run "Run for the World's Little Ones" takes place, a non-competitive event open to families and children, with routes of 3, 5, and 10 kilometers. The run has a strong charitable dimension: the funds raised support the projects of the association La Prima Coccola ODV for premature babies. This is the most authentic soul of the event, uniting sport, community, and solidarity.
True to the spirit of Romagna, the BIM Triathlon does not forget conviviality: during the weekend, the Romagna pasta party is held, featuring strozzapreti with ragรน, piadina, squacquerone, and rocket salad, to regain energy after the effort and celebrate the day together. Organized by ASD Elite Team Italia along with the Municipal Administration, the event is now a classic of early summer on the Bellaria-Igea Marina Riviera.
The 5th edition of the BIM Olympic Gold Triathlon, scheduled for June 13-14, 2026, in Bellaria-Igea Marina, is dedicated to Dalila Brocculi, a young woman from Rimini born prematurely, ambassador for La Prima Coccola and named Knight of the Italian Republic by President Mattarella. Around a thousand athletes are expected for the Olympic distance. Sunday's race is a stage of the FITRI Regional Circuit and awards the title of Regional Olympic Triathlon Champion.
For the 2026 edition, a relay format is also planned. During the weekend, a Romagna pasta party organized by the Circolo Diportisti with strozzapreti al ragรน, piadina, squacquerone, and rocket salad.
Bellaria-Igea Marina is reachable by car from the SS 16 Adriatica state road, with recommended access from Via Tolemaide; the town has a train station on the Bologna-Ancona line. The nearest airport is Rimini-Miramare.
On the day of the competition, the seafront and numerous streets in the center are closed to traffic, and public transport is suspended on the affected roads. It is advisable to consult the updated municipal ordinances and park in areas not involved in the route.
Race registration is done online on the Endu platform. FITRI membership is required, with the option of a daily membership for non-members.
