Bicincittà is one of Italy's most well-known cycling events: a national, non-competitive, eco-friendly ride promoted by UISP (Italian Union for Sport for All), which takes place simultaneously in over a hundred Italian cities every year. In Veglie, a small town in the Salento region of the province of Lecce, the event has become a decades-long tradition, organized with passion by the Luigi Murra Amateur Cycling Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Veglie.

A morning in the saddle for all ages

The formula is simple and inclusive: no races, no stopwatches, just the pleasure of riding together through the town streets at a controlled speed. The gathering and start take place in Piazza Umberto I, the heart of Veglie's historic center, before winding along an urban route accessible to all ages and concluding at the exhibition center on Via Salice. It is an event designed for families: parents with children, groups of friends, seniors, and anyone wishing to spend a festive Sunday in the open air.

Gentle mobility and a civic message

Beyond its festive appearance, Bicincittà carries a clear message. The bicycle becomes a symbol of alternative and sustainable mobility, more livable cities, human-scale urban spaces, and environmental education. Each national edition is accompanied by a common slogan: in 2026, the theme was "Sustainable Movements", while the previous year the ride took place under the motto "Imagine... people living in peace".

A solidarity-driven event

Bicincittà is also one of the most generous initiatives within the UISP landscape. In Veglie, the proceeds from registration fees are traditionally donated to charity: in 2026, the ASD Luigi Murra donated the event's proceeds to the Veglie-based association "Essere Umani", supporting people facing difficult times. A gesture that reinforces the social value of the event, uniting sport, environment, and solidarity.

How to participate

Registration is open to everyone and includes a symbolic fee that covers the official event t-shirt. Children aged 4 to 8 must be accompanied by an adult. It is advisable to keep your participation ticket, which is valid for the final prize draw. Bicincittà in Veglie is the perfect opportunity to discover the most authentic side of Salento while cycling in good company, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.
