About Benvenuto Natale

Every December, San Marzano sul Sarno lights up its Urban Park, turning it into the heart of the town's Christmas celebrations. "Benvenuto Natale" is the holiday event program promoted by the Municipality in the province of Salerno: it features light displays, scenic installations, a Santa Claus village, a living nativity scene, animated films for children, games, inflatables, concerts, tombolata, and a visit from the Befana. It is a widespread Christmas celebration, built in collaboration with local parishes, committees, and associations, accompanying the community from early December through Epiphany.

Benvenuto Natale, the holiday calendar of San Marzano sul Sarno

Benvenuto Natale is the program of events that the Municipality of San Marzano sul Sarno, in the Agro Nocerino Sarnese area of the province of Salerno (Campania), dedicates to the year-end festivities every year. It is not just a single event, but a widespread calendar that covers the weeks between the beginning of December and Epiphany, designed to involve children, families, adults, and seniors in every corner of the town.

The Urban Park, the heart of the town's Christmas

The center of gravity for the event is the municipal Urban Park on Via Berlinguer, the town's main green area. For the holidays, it is transformed into a true Christmas park: light displays, scenic installations, small houses, and activities dedicated to the little ones. The ribbon-cutting ceremony that lights up the park is now the symbolic moment that officially opens the festivities: in the most recent edition, it took place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in the presence of families and associations.

What to expect in the program

The program, approved by the municipal administration led by Mayor Andrea Annunziata, alternates children's attractions, live music, and moments of popular tradition. Documented editions have featured:

  • the Santa Claus village set up in the Urban Park;
  • the living nativity scene, one of the most heartfelt local traditions;
  • Cine Cartoon, with screenings of animated films for children;
  • entertainment, games, and inflatables for families;
  • concerts and musical shows, with DJ sets on evenings dedicated to the youth;
  • the tombolata, an unmissable ritual of Italian holidays;
  • tastings of sweets and traditional seasonal treats;
  • the meeting with the Befana, which closes the calendar around January 6.

A Christmas built with the community

The hallmark of the event is sharing. The program is born from the collaboration between the municipal administration, parish groups, neighborhood committees, and local associations: each entity contributes its own event, and the result is a "widespread" Christmas that does not remain confined to one square but is distributed across the park, churches, streets, and school buildings. It is a formula typical of the Agro towns, where the festival is still a matter of neighborhood spirit before it is a spectacle.

Sport, school, and inclusion

Alongside the more traditional events, the Municipality has added socially-oriented projects to the program. In December 2025, "Un Natale In-eguagliabile per tutti" (An Incomparable Christmas for All) was presented, funded with 20,000 euros by the Authority for Children and Adolescents and created with the local Comprehensive Institute: a path on inclusion through sport aimed at minors between 6 and 17 years old, with a first meeting on December 16, 2025, at the Via Pendino school complex and a day of celebration and sports activities open to families on December 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, right at the Urban Park.

When to go and what atmosphere to expect

The best time to visit is from early December to Epiphany, with weekends being the most lively moments. The winter climate of the Agro Nocerino Sarnese is mild and allows for outdoor activities even in the evenings: the illuminated park, with its installations, becomes the place where entire families meet after dinner. It is not an alpine Christmas market nor a large commercial fair: it is a village festival, free and accessible to everyone, where children are the protagonists.

San Marzano sul Sarno and its territory

A town of just over ten thousand inhabitants in the plain between Salerno and Naples, San Marzano sul Sarno is part of the Agro Nocerino Sarnese, one of the most fertile agricultural areas in Campania. Its position makes it a convenient base for those visiting the area: the coast and the Vesuvius archaeological sites are just a few kilometers away, and in December, the event offers an authentic opportunity to see how Christmas is truly experienced in a Campanian town, far from the tourist circuits.

Benvenuto Natale — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Benvenuto Natale has not yet been announced by the Municipality of San Marzano sul Sarno. As in previous years, the Christmas program is expected to kick off in the first half of December with the lighting of the Urban Park on Via Berlinguer and continue until Epiphany. Dates and the program will be published by the municipal administration in the weeks leading up to the holidays.

Benvenuto Natale 2026: what we know

At the moment, the Municipality of San Marzano sul Sarno has not yet released the calendar for the 2026 Christmas festivities. However, the event has been repeated regularly in recent years and is a stable part of the municipal programming, so it is reasonable to expect a new program during December.

The reference point remains the Urban Park on Via Enrico Berlinguer, transformed every year into a Christmas park with lights, installations, and activities for children and families, along with events spread across the town's parishes and squares. To find out dates, times, and the program, it is best to follow the Municipality's official website and the administration's channels: we will update this page as soon as official information becomes available.
