The Unity Festival in Bentivoglio

In the Municipality of Bentivoglio, in the province of Bologna and in the heart of the Emilian plain, the Unity Festival represents one of the most anticipated events of spring. Promoted by the Democratic Party club of Bentivoglio, the event is held at the Casa del Popolo on via Enrico Berlinguer and is structured into a series of weekends that, between May and June, liven up the town with the authentic flavors of the gastronomic tradition of the Bolognese lowlands.

The fresh pasta festivals

The common thread of the festival is Emilian cuisine, and in particular handmade fresh pasta, a true identity symbol of this territory. Each weekend is dedicated to a different specialty, according to a calendar that marks the entire duration of the event:

• Traditional menu, with the great classics of Emilian home cooking;
• Lasagna festival, featuring baked pasta with Bolognese ragù;
• Tortellone festival, dedicated to the famous tortelloni filled with ricotta and herbs;
• Handmade tortellini festival, with tortellini in broth and its most beloved variations.

At the gastronomic stand, you can taste tortellini in numerous traditional preparations, including in broth, with cream, with ragù, with speck and zucchini, the result of the work of volunteers and local cooks who hand-roll the pasta dough for the community every year.

A community festival

More than just a gastronomic event, the Bentivoglio Unity Festival is a moment of sociality and meeting for the inhabitants of the town and surrounding areas. The stand opens in the evening, with service starting at 7:00 PM, while on holidays lunch is also served starting at noon. For those who prefer, take-away service is available for collection directly on site.

The event is part of the long tradition of Unity Festivals that, for decades, have punctuated the spring and summer of Emilia-Romagna, combining good food, discussion, and conviviality. In Bentivoglio, this event is now an integral part of the local events calendar and attracts a loyal audience every year.
