Competitive 10 km road race for Epiphany in Acerra
The Befana Trophy is one of the most anticipated running events in the Campania region. Every January 6th, to mark the Epiphany, the city of Acerra, in the Province of Naples, welcomes hundreds of runners for a 10-kilometer competitive road race. Organized by ASD Podistica Il Laghetto, the event reached its 37th edition in 2026, cementing its status as an essential classic for running enthusiasts.
The start is set in Piazza Nicola Calipari, from which competitors set off along a completely flat city circuit, ideal for those seeking fast times and strong performances. The streets of Acerra, closed to traffic for the occasion, turn into a long ribbon of asphalt animated by the warmth of the local crowd, who cheer on the athletes from start to finish.
The Befana Trophy is more than just a competition: it is a festive moment that combines sport with local traditions. The date of the Epiphany, with the figure of the Befana deeply rooted in Italian culture, gives the race a unique atmosphere, balancing professional competition with family celebration. Each year, the race attracts over a thousand participants from not only Acerra but all of Campania and neighboring regions.
The event offers recognition for everyone: every finisher receives a medal, race pack, and refreshments. Prizes are awarded to the top 200 men and top 50 women at the finish line, as well as to winners of the master categories (MM/MF 60, 65, 70, 75, and 80). There are also team prizes reserved for sports clubs that bring at least 25 athletes to the finish line, showcasing the team spirit that drives the event.
Thanks to the organizational commitment and passion of the volunteers, the Befana Trophy has become a flagship of sport in Acerra and throughout Campania. Running through the city streets on Epiphany has become a tradition that grows every year, attracting competitive runners, amateurs, and families eager to start the year with movement and conviviality.
The 37th Befana Trophy took place in Acerra on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, with the start at 9:00 AM from Piazza Nicola Calipari. The competitive race, officially measured at 10 km on a completely flat course, saw over a thousand competitors at the starting line. Kadiri Yahya claimed victory in the men's category, and Francesca Palomba in the women's category.
As per tradition, all participants received a medal, race pack, and refreshments, while special prizes were awarded to the overall winners, master categories, and the largest teams at the finish line.
Acerra is located just a few kilometers from Naples and is well-connected via the Asse Mediano and the SS7 bis road. By train, it can be reached via the Circumvesuviana line. The meeting point and start are in Piazza Nicola Calipari, in the city center.
The entry fee is 10 euros with a rented chip and 9 euros with a personal chip. Registration closes a few days before the race or upon reaching 1,000 entrants.
The race takes place in mid-winter: technical clothing suitable for low morning temperatures is recommended. The start is scheduled for the morning.
