About Beethoven Festival

The Beethoven Festival at the Pinerolo Academy of Music is a four-concert series exploring the entire creative arc of Ludwig van Beethoven, from his early Viennese works to his final sonatas. The performances feature young talents from the Academy's advanced courses, mentored by internationally renowned professors. Conceived as the first step toward the 2027 Beethoven bicentenary, the festival blends philological rigor, technological research, and tributes to 20th-century masters within one of Piedmont's most vibrant musical institutions.

A tribute to Beethoven in the heart of Pinerolo

The Beethoven Festival is a concert series presented by the Pinerolo and Turin Academy of Music Foundation, dedicated to the genius of Bonn and held in the historic hall on Viale Giolitti, in the center of Pinerolo, near Turin. Part of the "In Crescendo" project and linked to the "Ascolti" concert season, the festival consists of four Tuesday evening events tracing the stylistic evolution of Ludwig van Beethoven, from his early Viennese experiments to the enigmatic masterpieces of his final period.

Four concerts, one great musical adventure

At the heart of the festival are the young talents from the Academy's advanced courses—musicians already embarking on their professional careers who study under world-class mentors such as Emanuele Arciuli, Gabriele Carcano, Pietro De Maria, Patrick Demenga, Filippo Gamba, Lukas Hagen, Enrico Pace, Roberto Plano, the Trio di Parma, and Mariangela Vacatello. Each evening is designed as a listening journey: from piano sonatas to chamber music for violin and cello, culminating in the monumental Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 37.

Tradition and innovation: the CAdMO Digi Orchestra

One of the most fascinating highlights is the debut of the CAdMO – Computer Aided Digital Music Orchestra, an adaptive virtual orchestra that enables real-time dialogue between the soloist and a digital orchestral accompaniment. Thanks to this technology, young pianists can tackle the concerto repertoire even in a chamber music setting, creating an original encounter between classical heritage and contemporary research.

Toward the 2027 bicentenary

The festival is not an isolated event; it represents the first step of a multi-year journey leading to the bicentenary of Beethoven's death in 2027. The series concludes with a special tribute to the memory of Maurizio Pollini, connecting Beethoven's late style with the Viennese avant-garde of Schönberg and Webern, in an ideal dialogue between the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

A cultural institution in Pinerolo

For decades, the Pinerolo Academy of Music has been a benchmark for excellence in musical education in Piedmont. With the Beethoven Festival, the town of Pinerolo reaffirms its status as a hub of high musical culture, attracting enthusiasts from across the region and offering the public world-class concerts at accessible prices.
