Craft beers, gourmet pizzas, and street performers in Piazza Cairoli, in the heart of the Castelli Romani
The Beer and Pizza Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the Velletri summer. For three nights, Piazza Cairoli — the main square of Velletri's recently renovated historic center — turns into a large open-air dining hall, complete with outdoor seating, food stalls, live music, and a festive atmosphere that sweeps through the entire town. The event, now in its twelfth edition in 2026, is organized by Artisticamente in collaboration with the Pro Loco Velitrae, with the support of the Municipality of Velletri, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio region.
The heart of the festival is, of course, the food. Wood-fired and professional ovens work non-stop to bake fresh pizzas of all kinds: from classic Margherita and Marinara to gourmet variations featuring typical Castelli Romani ingredients, as well as gluten-free options for celiacs. To accompany them, a wide selection of beers ranging from commercial brands to craft brews: light blondes, ambers, reds, and dark stouts, with the opportunity to get expert advice on beer and pizza pairings. Street food and local specialties are also available, ensuring a true culinary journey.
Each evening, the festival stage hosts free concerts featuring local bands, emerging artists, and tribute acts dedicated to the biggest names in Italian and international music. The program is rounded off with children's entertainment and performances by street artists, making the event perfect for families, young people, and visitors of all ages.
Since 2025, the festival has been held in partnership with the Velletri Buskers Circus, a street art festival curated by the Pro Loco Velitrae with artistic direction by Adriano Bono. Aerial acrobats, jugglers, stilt walkers, clowns, musicians, and fire performers animate Piazza Cairoli, Corso della Repubblica, Piazza Mazzini, and the most picturesque corners of the historic center with roving shows, turning Velletri into an open-air theater. The stated goal is to bring street art back to the people while showcasing the beauty of the town.
At the foot of Monte Artemisio, Velletri is the southernmost of the Castelli Romani towns, famous for its vineyards and deep-rooted food and wine traditions. The Beer and Pizza Festival is part of the rich Velletri summer calendar — alongside the White Night, music festivals, and night walks — and has become a true early-summer ritual: an opportunity to experience the historic center, rediscover the conviviality of the square, and enjoy two absolute icons of Italian cuisine just a few kilometers from Rome.
From June 26 to 28, 2026, Piazza Cairoli hosted the 12th Beer & Pizza Festival, organized by Artisticamente, featuring a large area dedicated to gastronomy, craft beers, and gourmet pizzas, with outdoor tables transforming the square into a grand urban lounge. On Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, the festival intertwined with the second edition of the Velletri Buskers Circus, curated by the Pro Loco Velitrae with artistic direction by Adriano Bono: acrobats, jugglers, stilt walkers, clowns, musicians, and fire performers animated Piazza Cairoli, Corso della Repubblica, Piazza Mazzini, and the streets of the historic center with roving performances. The weekend drew hundreds of people, including many families and children, confirming the formula that combines food and wine, music, and street art in the heart of Velletri.
By train: Velletri is the terminus of the FL4 regional line from Rome Termini (about one hour); the station is a ten-minute walk from the historic center. By car: Take the Via Appia (SS7) or Via dei Laghi from Rome; during the festival, temporary traffic changes are in effect, and dedicated parking areas are available near the center.
Free admission; you only pay for what you consume at the stalls. The festival comes alive especially in the evening, from aperitif time until late at night.
Piazza Cairoli is in the heart of the historic center: it is best to arrive early to secure a table, especially on Saturday. Gluten-free pizza options are available.
