The village's ultimate street food: the "baucino" sandwich, cooking shows, live music, and comedy in Baucina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Baucino Festival is one of the most cherished summer events in Baucina, a small town perched at an altitude of 550 meters in the hinterland of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily. At the heart of the festival is the baucino: a bold-flavored street food sandwich made with authentic, locally sourced ingredients. It is a dish that embodies the village's rural heritage and has quickly become a symbol of identity for the Baucinese community.
The event brings the town's historic center to life, with its characteristic stepped alleys and Piazza Santa Fortunata serving as the hub of the festivities. Stalls are set up along the streets to sample typical local products, while the highlight is the cooking show dedicated to the preparation and tasting of the baucino, led by local chefs. Recent editions have featured chefs Francesco Lelio and Giovanni Capizzi, both award-winners at the Italian Street Food Championship in Rimini.
Surrounding the tastings is a rich entertainment program: folk shows, musical evenings, and comedy acts that fill the squares until late at night. The Baucino Festival intertwines with the village's civil and religious celebrations, dedicated to the patron saints Santa Fortunata and San Marco, as well as commemorations of the town's founding in 1624. Over the years, the evenings have hosted the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, the Giacomo Cuticchio Ensemble, and renowned Sicilian comedians.
Visiting the Baucino Festival means discovering an authentic corner of the Palermo province, far from the beaten tourist path. It is the perfect opportunity to taste a specialty found only here, experience the hospitality of a festive Sicilian village, and immerse yourself in the gastronomic and folk traditions of the Palermitan hinterland.
At the moment, the Municipality of Baucina has not yet published the dates or the program for the 2026 edition of the Baucino Festival. Based on recent editions, the event is usually held in July, as part of the village's summer festivities and centered around the cooking show dedicated to the "baucino" sandwich. As soon as the official dates and program are announced, this page will be updated.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Baucina (PA), with Piazza Santa Fortunata as the main venue for events.
Baucina is located in the Palermitan hinterland, about 40 km from Palermo. By car, take the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (exits toward Villabate-Bagheria or Casteldaccia) and continue along the inland roads toward Ventimiglia di Sicilia and Baucina.
Access to the festival and square performances is generally free; tastings of local products and the baucino are available for purchase at the stalls.
For updated dates and programs, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Baucina and the local Pro Loco.
