About Duck Festival

In August, the hamlet of Basedo, in Chions, celebrates its most typical specialty: the rassa, duck cooked in ragù, as a main course, and in a frico variation. A large village festival with orchestras, DJ sets, themed evenings, a funfair, and a charity raffle, in the heart of the Pordenone plain.

The rassa, queen of the table

In the Pordenone plain, in Basedo, a hamlet of the municipality of Chions, there is a dish that tells the story of the area's peasant tradition: rassa, or duck, cooked according to home recipes. The Basedo Duck Festival is dedicated to this specialty, a large-scale village festival – "a colossal festival," as the organizers describe it – capable of attracting visitors from all over the region.

A duck in all its forms

The rassa is the absolute star of the food stalls, offered in various preparations: ragù for gnocchi, duck as a main course, and a particular variation of frico, the traditional Friulian cheese pie. Alongside the signature dish, there are also grilled meats, cheeses, mushrooms, beans, and local wines, offering something to satisfy every palate.

Music and fun for everyone

The festival is not just about food: the evenings are enlivened by traditional orchestras, DJ sets, and themed evenings, with events such as musical performances and 90s-themed events in past editions. For the little ones, there is a funfair, while the charity raffle and exhibitions complete a program designed for all ages and generations.

Discovering the Pordenone area

Basedo and Chions are located in the plain south of Pordenone, in an agricultural area dotted with small villages and authentic gastronomic traditions. The Duck Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover a specialty little known outside the local borders and to experience the warmth of a great Friulian village festival.

Duck Festival — edition 2026

The Basedo Duck Festival is expected in August 2026, during the usual early August period: duck (rassa) in ragù, as a main course, and in frico, with grilled meats and Friulian specialties, orchestras, DJ sets, themed evenings, and a funfair.

The 2026 edition of the Duck Festival is expected in the usual early August period in Basedo, a hamlet of Chions. The festival confirms its highly successful formula that has made it famous: duck as the gastronomic star, accompanied by a rich program of musical evenings and entertainment.
