About Avventura Maremmana

Avventura Maremmana is a spring bikepacking gathering that draws cycling enthusiasts to the heart of the Grosseto Maremma. Starting and finishing in Saturnia, a thermal village in the Municipality of Manciano, it offers two long routes to be tackled in total autonomy via GPS tracks: the 'Briganti' route (approx. 230 km) and the shorter 'Cinghiali' route (approx. 150 km). It is not a race, but a personal journey through white gravel roads, single tracks, rolling hills, and historic villages, all the way to the Argentario coast.

A cycling adventure in the heart of the Maremma

Avventura Maremmana is one of the most anticipated cycle-tourism events in the Grosseto Maremma. Established in 2016, the event takes place in Saturnia, the famous thermal village in the Municipality of Manciano, in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany. This is not a timed competition, but a self-supported bikepacking gathering where each participant chooses their own pace, following a GPS track on a mountain bike, gravel bike, or e-bike.

Two routes, one land to discover

The core of the event lies in two brand-new itineraries that lead cyclists from the inland hills to the sea of the Argentario each year:

  • Briganti Route — approx. 230 km with 5,000 meters of elevation gain; the most demanding challenge, reserved for the fittest bikepackers.
  • Cinghiali Route — approx. 150 km with 3,000 meters of elevation gain; a more accessible yet still adventurous version.

Both tracks wind through strade bianche (white gravel roads), single tracks, cultivated hills, Mediterranean scrub, and ancient historic villages, offering a slow-paced journey through the most authentic landscapes of the Maremma.

Saturnia and the Manciano territory

The choice of Saturnia as the start and finish point is no coincidence: the village, world-famous for its Cascate del Mulino thermal waterfalls, serves as an ideal gateway to a region rich in thermal baths, Etruscan necropolises, 'vie cave' (sunken roads), and medieval villages like Manciano, Montemerano, and Pitigliano. The initiative is supported by the Municipality of Manciano and is part of a strategy to promote slow and sustainable tourism.

The spirit of the event

Avventura Maremmana does not reward the fastest; it rewards those who know how to enjoy the journey. It is an invitation to rediscover the pleasure of exploring by bike, away from traffic and beaten paths, immersed in the nature and traditions of one of the most fascinating areas of southern Tuscany.

Avventura Maremmana — edition 2026

The tenth edition of Avventura Maremmana took place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, starting and finishing in Saturnia. Participants could choose between the Briganti route (approx. 230 km and 5,000 m elevation gain) and the Cinghiali route (approx. 150 km and 3,000 m elevation gain), both heading to the Argentario coast via white gravel roads, single tracks, and historic Maremma villages.

The 2026 edition, the tenth of the event, confirmed the winning formula of self-supported bikepacking. With the start set for the early hours of Saturday, April 18, from Saturnia, a village in the Municipality of Manciano, cyclists tackled two completely renewed GPS tracks. The initiative, sponsored by the Municipality of Manciano with the support of Deputy Mayor Roberto Bulgarini and Tourism Councilor Andrea Caccialupi, reaffirmed its commitment to slow tourism and the exploration of the Maremma territory.
