The 10 km road race in the heart of the Asti region
The AVIS Trophy is the premier spring running event in Villanova d'Asti, a town nestled in the hills of the Lower Monferrato in Piedmont. It is a FIDAL-certified 10 km competitive road race organized by the Polisportiva Mezzaluna APD in close collaboration with the local branch of AVIS, the blood donor association that gives the race its name. It is more than just a sporting challenge; it is a community festival and a vital opportunity to raise public awareness about the importance of blood donation.
Founded in 2023, the event has grown rapidly to become a staple of the Asti running calendar. As part of the FIDAL Provincial Championship and a stage in the regional circuit, the race attracts an increasing number of participants each year. From the hundreds of runners in its early editions, it has built a loyal following, with athletes representing clubs from all over Piedmont and beyond. The organization prides itself on attention to detail, from the race announcer to the professional photography services provided by specialists like Bio Correndo.
The 10 km route starts in the center of Villanova d'Asti, winding along the provincial roads that connect the town to nearby San Paolo Solbrito, through the countryside and hills typical of the Asti landscape. The start is located near Largo Cavour and Viale San Giacomo, with the finish line at the Mezzaluna sports complex, where athletes have access to changing rooms and showers. A flying finish at the 4 km mark rewards the first runners to pass, adding a strategic element to the competition.
Alongside the 10 km competitive race, the AVIS Trophy dedicates significant space to younger athletes with youth track races, held at the sports field shortly after the adult start. It is a wonderful way to involve families and introduce children to track and field, reflecting the day's community-focused spirit.
For running enthusiasts and those who love exploring the villages of Piedmont on foot, the AVIS Trophy in Villanova d'Asti is the perfect opportunity to combine sport, beautiful scenery, and a worthy cause.
