The April 25th Fair is one of the most deeply rooted events in the calendar of Avezzano, the capital of the Marsica region in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo. Every year, to mark Liberation Day, the city center fills with stalls, colors, and voices: a tradition that blends the civic memory of April 25th with the vitality of a major popular fair, attracting thousands of people from across Marsica and the rest of Abruzzo.
A commercial route through the city center
For an entire day, the center of Avezzano becomes a long pedestrian walkway lined with stalls. The fair's route winds along Via Mazzini (from Piazza della Repubblica to Via Diaz), Via Trieste, Via Corradini, Piazza della Repubblica, and the surrounding streets, covering a total area of approximately 8,000 square meters closed to traffic and reserved for pedestrians. The exhibitors offer a wide range of goods: clothing, footwear, household items, crafts, gifts, and much more.
Thematic areas, street food, and crafts
The fair is more than just a market. Various thematic areas are organized around the stalls by trade associations: a space dedicated to crafts and gifts, a street food area, and a space reserved for typical products from the Marsica and Abruzzo regions. The food area is concentrated in Piazza della Repubblica, while street performers and entertainment liven up the day for families and curious visitors along the route.
Civic memory and community celebration
The fair intertwines with the official Liberation Day commemorations, which honor the end of the occupation and the Resistance. In Avezzano, a city heavily impacted by the Second World War, April 25th holds deep significance. Alongside the official ceremony, the fair adds a popular and convivial dimension to a day of celebration shared by the entire community.
Organization
The event is organized by the Municipality of Avezzano in collaboration with local merchant associations, with the aim of supporting local commerce and enhancing the city's historic center.

For the 2026 edition, the April 25th Fair returned to animate the center of Avezzano with about 160 participants, including exhibitors and those involved in side activities. The route covered Via Mazzini (from Piazza della Repubblica to Via Diaz), Via Trieste, Via Corradini, Piazza della Repubblica, and Via Marconi, spanning an area of approximately 8,000 square meters closed to traffic.
The organization, managed by the Municipality of Avezzano, included three thematic spaces entrusted to trade associations: the craft and gift market along Via Corradini, the street food area between Via Pagani and Via Corradini, and the local products space. The food area was concentrated in Piazza della Repubblica.

Avezzano is accessible via the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway (Avezzano exit) and the city's train station. During the fair, the center is pedestrianized and closed to traffic: it is recommended to park in areas outside the fair perimeter and proceed on foot.
