Christmas in the Ciociaria village of the Comino Valley, featuring markets, concerts at the Ducal Palace, and a living nativity scene.
Every year, between December and Epiphany, the village of Atina, in the province of Frosinone, lights up with the atmosphere of Christmas for the «Atina Christmas Village» festival. Perched on a hill in the Comino Valley, in the heart of the Ciociaria region, Atina is one of the oldest cities in Lazio: legend has it that it was founded by the god Saturn even before Rome, and it is now listed among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. During the holidays, its medieval alleys, squares, and the majestic Ducal Palace become the natural stage for a month of events.
The Ducal Palace, a national monument that dominates Piazza Saturno with its towers, Gothic portal, and elegant medieval mullioned windows, hosts most of the program: concerts, theatrical shows, and musical appointments ranging from classical music to the folk sounds of the accordion. A highlight is the Valle di Comino Festival, a chamber music series that brings nationally renowned performers to Atina. Events also take place throughout the historic center and the village parishes.
Christmas in Atina has a strong food and wine focus. With «Christmas Wine in the Village», the Christmas markets and stalls featuring local products open, while the CantinAtina Winter event celebrates the wines of the Comino Valley — starting with the famous Cabernet di Atina DOC — alongside local crafts and specialties. Strolling through the decorated stalls, with a glass of mulled wine in hand and the scent of Ciociaria delicacies in the air, is one of the most authentic pleasures of this season.
The most heartfelt part of the festival remains that linked to folk traditions. During the days of Epiphany, the village stages a living nativity scene, with costumed actors bringing the streets of the historic center to life, while the arrival of the Befana brings the calendar to a festive close, much to the delight of the little ones. Music, lights, flavors, and devotion intertwine in an experience that tells the story of the deep identity of the Ciociaria region.
Designed for both adults and children, «Atina Christmas Village» combines culture, entertainment, and conviviality in a setting of rare beauty. Those who visit the village during this period discover not just a series of events, but an entire town acting as a community: an ideal opportunity for a weekend in the lesser-known and most authentic part of Lazio, far from mass tourism.
From December 13, 2025, to January 6, 2026, Atina transformed once again into a «Christmas Village». The festival wove together tradition, music, theater, and gastronomy between the Ducal Palace, the historic center, and the town parishes, with events designed for families, music enthusiasts, and lovers of typical Ciociaria flavors.
Atina is located in the Comino Valley, in the province of Frosinone. By car, it can be reached from the A1 Rome-Naples motorway (Cassino or Frosinone exits) by continuing along the provincial roads towards the valley. The reference train station is Cassino, on the Rome-Naples line, from which you can continue by bus or car.
The festival runs from mid-December until January 6th, the day of the Epiphany.
Most events, markets, and appointments are free to enter. The detailed program is published by the Municipality of Atina and the Pro Loco on their official channels and on Visit Atina.
