The "Woodstock of arrosticini", the traveling Easter Monday festival of Abruzzo
Arrostiland is the traveling festival dedicated to the Abruzzese tradition of arrosticini, celebrated every year on Easter Monday. Born from the Abruzzo di Morris social community and conceived by Fausto Di Nella, it has grown into a true cultural phenomenon, earning the nickname "Woodstock of arrosticini". Each edition is held in a different town in Abruzzo, selected from several candidate municipalities that compete for the honor of hosting the event.
The heart of the event is the "flocks"—groups of friends, families, and enthusiasts who register to participate actively. Each flock is assigned a space in the host town's center, where they set up their own grills and tables, bringing their own meat, charcoal, bread, and wine. Registration is limited and sells out well in advance. However, the event remains a massive public celebration open to everyone: even those not part of an official flock can stroll freely through the alleys, listen to music, and soak up the atmosphere.
Throughout the streets and squares, stages are set up featuring live music, DJ sets, and collective entertainment that lasts all day. A staple of the event is the ArrostiGames, traditional games for all ages, alongside spaces dedicated to cultural entertainment and charity.
What makes Arrostiland unique is its traveling nature: it has no fixed home, moving each year to a different Abruzzese town, bringing thousands of visitors from all over Italy and abroad. To manage the influx, the Abruzzo Region organizes special train services and dedicated shuttle buses every year. It is a way to showcase a different village each time, celebrating its hospitality in the spirit of arrosticini and Abruzzese conviviality.
For its tenth edition, Arrostiland chose a town in the Teramo area for the first time: Mosciano Sant'Angelo, in the province of Teramo. The town was selected from four finalists (alongside Pratola Peligna, San Benedetto dei Marsi, and Fallo) and welcomed over 9,000 registered participants in the flocks, in addition to numerous visitors with free access. A day dedicated to arrosticini, music, and solidarity, confirming Arrostiland as the highlight of the Abruzzese Easter Monday.
Every year on Easter Monday. The location changes with each edition: a different town in Abruzzo is chosen.
To participate as a "flock", online registration on the official website is required: spots are limited and sell out in advance. Free access to the public festival is open to everyone.
During the event, the Abruzzo Region boosts rail services with extra trains, and shuttle buses run from parking areas to the event site. We recommend using trains and shuttles to avoid traffic.
