A village turned into a stage

Armonie di Agosto is the summer festival of music and culture promoted by the Municipality of San Mauro Cilento, a small hillside town in the province of Salerno, Campania. For several weeks, between the second half of August and early September, the town's squares, alleys, and most characteristic spots turn into a widespread stage: not a single theatre, but a series of locations hosting concerts, shows, and gatherings, engaging both residents and visitors alike.

Folk music, jazz, and theatre

The program is diverse: alongside folk music and traditional Cilento sounds, there is room for jazz, singer-songwriter performances, dance, and theatre. This is a deliberate choice by the organizers, who pair local talent with well-known Italian performers to create a lineup that speaks to diverse audiences without losing its connection to local identity.

The setting: Cilento and the National Park

San Mauro Cilento is located in the heart of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, on the slopes of Mount Stella and just a few kilometers from the sea. The municipal territory includes the hamlets of Casal Sottano and Mezzatorre, the latter overlooking the coast. It is a landscape of terraced olive groves, dry-stone walls, and stone houses: this part of Cilento is one of the most recognized cradles of the Mediterranean diet, and the festival honors this legacy through its gastronomic events.

Organizers

The festival is promoted by the Municipality of San Mauro Cilento with the support of the Campania Region and Campania Turismo, in collaboration with the National Park Authority. The stated goal is twofold: to offer high-quality cultural programming during the peak tourist season and, at the same time, to bring life to a small inland town that has fewer than a thousand inhabitants off-season. It is a formula now common in Cilento villages, where the summer season becomes an opportunity to restore life to historic squares.

The 2025 edition

The last documented edition took place from August 16 to September 7, 2025, with a calendar that intertwined music, theatre, and tradition. The opening was entrusted to the energy of Rhythm and Core; in the following weeks, the lineup featured, among others, the Villa Perbene show and actor Massimiliano Gallo, one of the most well-known faces in Italian cinema and television. The festival closed with Settembre ai Fichi, held from September 3 to 7 in Casal Sottano, an event dedicated to Cilento traditions and, in particular, the white fig of Cilento.

When to go

Events are concentrated in the second half of August and the first few days of September, when Cilento evenings are still warm but the peak tourist rush of mid-August begins to subside. It is the best time to combine a beach holiday — the beaches of Mezzatorre, Acciaroli, and Pioppi are just a few minutes' drive away — with the discovery of the inland hills, local olive mills, and wineries.

Information on the current edition

At the moment, the Municipality has not yet released the dates and program for the next edition. The schedule is usually announced between the end of July and the beginning of August and published on the official website of the Municipality of San Mauro Cilento, where you can also download the flyer with the evening-by-evening schedule.
