About Ariano Oktoberfest

Every late September, the Ariano Oktoberfest brings the atmosphere of Bavaria to the hills of Irpinia. In the Frolice district, at the same venue that hosts the Pizza Festival, imported German beer mugs accompany pork shank with sauerkraut, pretzels, and strudel, while live bands and DJs take the stage until late at night. Free admission and parking, long communal tables under gazebos, and vintage car and motorcycle gatherings: it is the most anticipated beer festival in the municipality of Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino.

A Bavarian beer festival in the heart of Irpinia

Every late September, the large square in Frolice district, in Ariano Irpino, transforms into an open-air Festhalle: this is the Ariano Oktoberfest, the beer festival organized by the Pro Loco Frolice Francesco Albanese APS in the "Tricolle" municipality, in the province of Avellino, Campania. Established in 2022, the event has quickly carved out a permanent spot in the Irpinian autumn calendar, right after the summer festival season, attracting crowds from across the Irpinia, Sannio, and Daunia regions.

Frolice district, the home of the festival

The venue is the same area that hosts the Pizza Festival in summer, one of the historic events of the Ariano area: wide spaces, gazebos set up for the occasion, communal tables to share, and a large parking lot on the edge of town. The formula is that of the great Southern popular festivals, reinterpreted with a German twist: arrive early, sit at the long tables, eat, and drink while bands and DJs take turns on stage until deep into the night.

The beers: Munich in Irpinia

The selection is the true pride of the organizers, who import the kegs directly from Germany every year.

  • Augustiner, one of the six historic breweries permitted at the Munich Oktoberfest, has been the official beer of the event, in Mรคrzen and Edelstoff versions.
  • German craft beers such as Rittmayer (Helles and Festbier), Plank Brauerei (Weizenbock), and Zirndorfer.
  • A gluten-free option and a selection of spirits for those who do not drink beer.

The festival's communication has always emphasized one point: beer culture goes hand in hand with responsible consumption. One drinks for pleasure, not to excess, and this message is repeated from the stage.

The cuisine: sauerkraut, pork shank, and Irpinian flavors

The menu blends Bavaria with local tradition, with kitchens active throughout the festival. Among the dishes offered in various editions:

  • pork shank with potatoes and sauerkraut, the signature dish of the event;
  • grilled sausages and stuffed sandwiches;
  • pretzels and fried snacks;
  • baked pasta and local appetizers;
  • strudel and gingerbread hearts (Lebkuchen) for dessert.

Sunday is traditionally dedicated to lunch under the gazebos, with typical dishes and reserved seating via booking: it is the most family-friendly moment of the festival, filling the area from late morning.

Live music, DJ sets, and engines

The musical program is generous: more than ten live performances spread over the evenings, alternating with DJ sets. Over the years, the Frolice stage has hosted folk and ska bands such as Fleimstaler, Aprรจs la Classe, Terrasonora, Riserva Moac, Bandakadabra, The Rumpled, Carro Bestiame, and I Malamente, as well as the boogie-woogie of Antonio Sorgentone and DJs Ricky Esse, Vinyl Gianpy, and Panko.

Alongside the music, there are motor gatherings, which have become a classic feature of the event: vintage cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles arrive in a procession and remain on display in the festival area, often with dedicated times between the afternoon and evening.

Why visit

Ariano Irpino is one of the most vibrant centers of upper Irpinia: a city of ceramics, bread, and the wines of the Tricolle, it stretches across three hills straddling the Apennine watershed. The Oktoberfest perfectly reflects its hospitable character, the desire to gather at the table, and the ability to embrace a foreign tradition without giving up local flavors. Visitors from outside the region can combine the festival with a walk through the historic center, a visit to the Civic and Ceramics Museum, and a stop at the wineries of Irpinia, land of Taurasi, Fiano, and Greco di Tufo.

Ariano Oktoberfest โ€” edition 2026

The new edition of the Ariano Oktoberfest has not yet been officially announced. So far, the Frolice district beer festival has always taken place on the last weekend of September in Ariano Irpino; for 2026, the Pro Loco Frolice has only communicated the dates for the Pizza Festival, scheduled from August 6 to 9. To find out the dates and program, it is advisable to follow the official website and the event's social media channels.

2026 Edition: dates not yet announced

At the time of verification, no official announcement has been published for the 2026 edition of the Ariano Oktoberfest. The four previous editions were all held between late September and early October, in Frolice district in Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino: it is therefore reasonable to expect the same period, but nothing has been confirmed by the organizers yet.

The 2026 calendar of the Irpinian Pro Loco associations reports only the Pizza Festival for the Pro Loco Frolice Francesco Albanese APS, now in its 21st edition and scheduled from August 6 to 9, 2026, in the same area that hosts the Oktoberfest in autumn.

As soon as the dates, musical program, and information regarding the Sunday lunch are released, this page will be updated. In the meantime, the official website arianoktoberfest.it and the festival's social media profiles remain the references to keep an eye on.
