The Carnival of Argenta's historic centre with parades, masks, and games for children
Argenta Allegra is the Carnival event that colours the historic centre of Argenta, an important municipality in the low plains of the province of Ferrara, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. After several years of absence, the festival has returned in a renewed guise, primarily dedicated to children and families: a Sunday afternoon of fun with masks, confetti, music, and surprises, animated by the Municipality of Argenta in collaboration with the Pro Loco and many local associations and businesses.
The heart of the event is Argenta's historic centre, with masked groups gathering along Via Garibaldi and entertainment spread across Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Mazzini. Face painting, aerial dance shows, pole dance, Zumba, and baby dance performances accompany the wait for the highlight: the masked parade that winds through the town streets, led by the Marching Band that brings rhythm and colour to the procession.
The most anticipated and spectacular moment of Argenta Allegra is the traditional final dropping of toys, which fall from above to the crowd of children gathered in the squares: a festive ritual that concludes the day and has become the symbol of this event. Around the parade, there are art workshops, carousels, bouncy castles, awards for the best masked groups, and refreshment stands managed by local bars and businesses.
Argenta Allegra is above all a community celebration, built thanks to the joint efforts of the Municipality, Pro Loco, and local associations. It's an opportunity to rediscover popular Carnival traditions in a family-friendly way, in one of the most vibrant towns in the Ferrara region, and to experience Argenta's historic centre on a day of music, colours, and fun for all ages.
The second edition of Argenta Allegra was held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the historic centre of Argenta, with Sunday, March 8, as a reserve date in case of bad weather. The event confirmed the format of a widespread celebration across Via Garibaldi, Piazza Garibaldi, and Piazza Mazzini, organized by the Municipality of Argenta together with the Pro Loco and numerous local associations.
The afternoon began with the gathering of masked groups, face painting, and dance performances, culminating in the masked parade and the traditional dropping of toys from the Tower, the true symbol of the festival.
A Sunday afternoon in March, typically from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In case of bad weather, the event may be postponed to the following Sunday.
