Aosta joins the national archives festival with an evening of documents and local history
Archivissima is the national festival dedicated to archives and their heritage, which each year, around June 9th (International Archives Day), involves libraries, foundations, institutions, and historical archives throughout Italy with the Night of Archives. Born in Turin, the festival has gradually spread throughout the country, and in 2026, the Municipality of Aosta will also join the initiative, bringing an evening dedicated to documentary memory to the capital of the Aosta Valley for the first time.
The Aosta event takes place at the Institut Agricole Régional and offers a journey that intertwines the promotion of archival heritage, the narrative of the territory's transformations, and cultural dissemination. At the center is the presentation by the archivist of the Municipality of Aosta, showcasing archival documentation dedicated to the urban development of Aosta and the transformations between the southern area, marked by the industrial presence of Cogne Acciai Speciali, and the western area, with an agricultural vocation. The event is promoted in collaboration with the Valdostan Institute for the History of the Resistance.
The 2026 edition of Archivissima is dedicated to the theme "What Isn't There", a reflection on what is missing in archives, what is not visible or remains in the background but continues to question the present and open new possibilities for storytelling and interpretation. This common thread, also in Aosta, invites us to view documentary heritage not just as a repository of the past, but as a tool for understanding the identity and transformations of a city and its territory.
In 2026, Archivissima's Night of Archives arrives in Aosta for the first time. The event is on Friday, June 5th, at 6:00 PM, at the Institut Agricole Régional, with an evening divided into two sessions for a maximum of 40 people each. The focus is on the presentation by the archivist of the Municipality of Aosta, Federica Giommi, showcasing archival documentation dedicated to the city's urban development and the transformations of the territory between the southern area, marked by Cogne Acciai Speciali, and the western agricultural area. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Aosta with the Valdostan Institute for the History of the Resistance, is part of the national edition dedicated to the theme "What Isn't There".
Event promoted by the Municipality of Aosta and the Valdostan Institute for the History of the Resistance as part of the national Archivissima edition "What Isn't There." Limited seating: booking recommended.
