A multidisciplinary festival in the historic village of Giulianova
Approdo — Borgo in Festival is the cultural event that enlivens the historic center of Giulianova, in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo, every summer. Born with the idea of bringing life, art, and community back to the alleys of this village overlooking the Adriatic, the festival transforms squares, urban corners, and streets into open-air stages. Theater, music, publishing, and visual arts intertwine in an immersive journey that invites the public to rediscover the upper town by walking from one place to another.
The theatrical heart is entrusted to Teatro Potlach, which, with the "Invisible Cities" project—freely inspired by the work of Italo Calvino—stages a widespread community theater capable of animating the village spaces with performances, installations, and participatory interventions.
Music has its hub in Piazza Buozzi, which hosts major evening concerts: from the Abruzzo Symphonic Institution to international electronic pop sounds, up to original sound research. Publishing finds its home along Corso Vittorio Emanuele with "Sentieri dei racconti" (Paths of Tales), a space where dozens of local and regional publishing houses present books, authors, and projects.
The event is preceded by a suggestive preview on the pier of the Port of Giulianova, where silent cinema meets live music with the sonorized screening of the avant-garde masterpiece "Man with a Movie Camera" (1929) by Dziga Vertov. A moment that symbolically opens the festival by looking at the sea, an identity element of the city.
Organized by the Municipality of Giulianova, Approdo grows in cultural substance year after year, involving local associations, volunteers, artisans, and bookstores. Craft workshops, spaces dedicated to children with playful-creative activities, and publishing stands complete the offer, making the historic village a place of meeting and participation. Admission to all events is free.
From July 24 to 26, 2026, the historic center of Giulianova, in the province of Teramo, hosts the sixth edition of Approdo — Borgo in Festival. Three days that weave together community theater, concerts, independent publishing, and visual arts, with free admission to all events.
