About Appenninia

Appenninia Wine Festival is the oenological event celebrating high-altitude wines from the entire Italian Apennine range, from Liguria to the Pre-Sila. Hosted at the Mugello International Circuit in Scarperia e San Piero, near Florence, the event brings together dozens of wineries, expert-led masterclasses, and public tastings. An early-year appointment that highlights mountain viticulture, the Mugello territory, and the food and wine culture of Tuscany.

The festival of high-altitude Apennine wines

The Appenninia Wine Festival is one of the most original wine events on the Tuscan scene: a fair entirely dedicated to high-altitude wines, specifically those produced along the entire Italian Apennine range, from Liguria to the Calabrian Pre-Sila. The event takes place in the heart of Mugello, in the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero, in the province of Florence, within the evocative setting of the Mugello International Circuit, where the pit and hospitality areas are transformed for the occasion into a grand space dedicated to wine.

A project born in Mugello

The event is conceived and organized by the Consorzio ProViMu - Produttori Vini Mugello, the association that brings together the wineries of the Mugello area. Created with the goal of promoting mountain and hillside wines, Appenninia has expanded its reach with each edition, welcoming wineries from across the entire Apennine ridge. The festival serves as a showcase and a meeting point for producers, sommeliers, industry professionals, and enthusiasts alike, with a special focus on promoting high-altitude wines and preserving the territory.

Tastings, masterclasses, and wine culture

The program alternates between tasting tables from participating wineries and a packed calendar of thematic masterclasses, talks, and conferences dedicated to the identity and commercial prospects of Apennine wine. There is also space for culture, with book presentations and meetings with experts, as well as conviviality during the dinner with the producers. The event benefits from the technical coordination of renowned figures in the Italian wine world and industry ambassadors.

  • Tasting tables with dozens of wineries from the Apennine range
  • Guided masterclasses dedicated to white wines, sparkling wines, and high-altitude Pinot Noir
  • Talks and conferences on the identity and potential of mountain wines
  • Dinner with the producers and moments of conviviality

Mugello and the Tuscany of wine

Appenninia offers the chance to discover a lesser-known side of Tuscan wine: not the great reds of the Chianti hills or the coast, but the fresh, vertical, and distinctive wines born at altitude, where the elevation and temperature range create unique aromatic profiles. Visiting the festival also means getting to know Mugello, a land of traditions, craftsmanship (Scarperia is famous for its knives), and Apennine landscapes, just a few kilometers from Florence.

Appenninia — edition 2026

The fourth edition of the Appenninia Wine Festival took place on February 8 and 9, 2026, at the Mugello International Circuit in Scarperia e San Piero. Featuring about 57 wineries from across the Apennine range, from Liguria to the Pre-Sila, and for the first time an international representation of Pinot Noir, the edition offered tasting tables, masterclasses, and conferences. Sunday was open to the public, while Monday was dedicated to the press and professionals.
