The High-Altitude Wine Festival, dedicated to the wines of the Apennine range
The Appenninia Wine Festival is one of the most original wine events on the Tuscan scene: a fair entirely dedicated to high-altitude wines, specifically those produced along the entire Italian Apennine range, from Liguria to the Calabrian Pre-Sila. The event takes place in the heart of Mugello, in the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero, in the province of Florence, within the evocative setting of the Mugello International Circuit, where the pit and hospitality areas are transformed for the occasion into a grand space dedicated to wine.
The event is conceived and organized by the Consorzio ProViMu - Produttori Vini Mugello, the association that brings together the wineries of the Mugello area. Created with the goal of promoting mountain and hillside wines, Appenninia has expanded its reach with each edition, welcoming wineries from across the entire Apennine ridge. The festival serves as a showcase and a meeting point for producers, sommeliers, industry professionals, and enthusiasts alike, with a special focus on promoting high-altitude wines and preserving the territory.
The program alternates between tasting tables from participating wineries and a packed calendar of thematic masterclasses, talks, and conferences dedicated to the identity and commercial prospects of Apennine wine. There is also space for culture, with book presentations and meetings with experts, as well as conviviality during the dinner with the producers. The event benefits from the technical coordination of renowned figures in the Italian wine world and industry ambassadors.
Appenninia offers the chance to discover a lesser-known side of Tuscan wine: not the great reds of the Chianti hills or the coast, but the fresh, vertical, and distinctive wines born at altitude, where the elevation and temperature range create unique aromatic profiles. Visiting the festival also means getting to know Mugello, a land of traditions, craftsmanship (Scarperia is famous for its knives), and Apennine landscapes, just a few kilometers from Florence.
The fourth edition of the Appenninia Wine Festival was held on Sunday, February 8, and Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Mugello International Circuit. The event brought together about 57 wineries from across the entire Italian Apennine range, from Liguria to the Pre-Sila, with an international representation dedicated to high-altitude Pinot Noir for the first time.
Sunday, open to the public from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, featured the inauguration with local institutions and the Tuscany Region, talks on the identity of Tuscan Apennine wine, and the presentation of the book "La molecola della civiltà " by Francesco Sorelli. Two masterclasses guided visitors through white wines, sparkling wines, and Pinot Noir, followed in the evening by dinner with the producers. Monday, dedicated to the press and professionals, hosted a conference on the prospects of Apennine wine and an additional masterclass. Technical coordination was entrusted to Francesco Saverio Russo, with Ilaria Lorini, Best Sommelier of Italy AIS 2025, as Brand Ambassador. A new feature was the Wine-Shop curated by the Proloco of Scarperia.
The Mugello International Circuit is located in the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero (FI), reachable by car from the Barberino di Mugello exit on the A1 motorway or from Florence along the SP503 Passo del Giogo road. Ample parking is available at the circuit.
Admission is paid and includes a screen-printed tasting glass with a holder. Sunday is the main day open to the public; Monday is primarily dedicated to the press and industry professionals. Professionals can request accreditation by writing to [email protected].
