About Antiqua

Antiqua is the historic early music festival organized by the Accademia del Ricercare, which brings a dense calendar of concerts to Piedmont every year. Dedicated to medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoires, the performances feature period instruments played according to historical performance practice. The Monteu da Po stage, located in a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin overlooking the Po river, takes place in the intimate Municipal Theatre on Via San Giovanni 5, featuring free concerts accompanied by art installations. An evening to rediscover the charm of European Renaissance courts.

Antiqua: Great early music in the town of Monteu da Po

Antiqua is one of Italy's longest-running and most prestigious festivals dedicated to early music, conceived and organized by the Accademia del Ricercare under the artistic direction of Pietro Busca. Every year, the event offers a rich calendar of concerts spread across various locations in Piedmont, with a special focus on medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoires, performed according to historical practice criteria on original instruments or philological copies. The festival is supported by the Metropolitan City of Turin, the Ministry of Culture, the Piedmont Region, and foundations such as Fondazione CRT.

The Monteu da Po stage

In the town of Monteu da Po, a hillside village in the Metropolitan City of Turin known for the Roman archaeological site of Industria, the festival finds one of its most intimate venues: the Municipal Theatre, located at Via San Giovanni 5. The cozy space and favorable acoustics provide an ideal setting for listening to early music, where the charm of the location dialogues with the sounds of Renaissance and Baroque instruments.

A journey into the European Renaissance courts

The concert that Antiqua brings to Monteu da Po is dedicated to instrumental music in the European courts of the Renaissance, a repertoire of dances, 'balli da sonare', and concert pieces that enlivened the festivities and receptions of the great courts of the 16th and early 17th centuries. An ensemble of specialized musicians brings to life works by composers such as Giorgio Mainerio, Johann Hieronymus Kapsberger, and Michael Praetorius, restoring the elegance and sonic color of an era.

A cultural initiative for the area

The Antiqua concerts in Monteu da Po are free of charge, in the spirit of cultural dissemination that drives the Accademia del Ricercare. The evenings are often enriched by a small art installation curated by the "La Voce dei Venti" association, which unites music and visual arts in a dialogue between different forms of expression.
