Early music brings the Castle of Foglizzo to life
Antiqua is one of Italy's longest-running festivals dedicated to early music, conceived and organized by the Accademia del Ricercare under the artistic direction of Pietro Busca. Each year, the event offers a packed schedule of concerts held across Piedmont and Liguria, with a special focus on medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoires performed according to historical practice criteria on period instruments or philological copies.
In the municipality of Foglizzo, nestled in the Canavese area in the province of Turin, the festival finds one of its most charming venues: the Council Chamber Hall inside the Castle, at Via del Castello 6. The ancient manor, with its intimate atmosphere, provides an ideal setting for listening to early music, where the acoustics and the charm of the location harmonize with the sounds of Baroque instruments.
Concerts for Antiqua in Foglizzo are free of charge, in keeping with the spirit of cultural dissemination that drives the Accademia del Ricercare. The evenings are often accompanied by the opportunity to visit the Castle before the concert and by small art installations curated by local associations, which enrich the audience's experience.
Each edition in Foglizzo features a monographic program entrusted to prominent ensembles in the early music scene. The concerts range from Renaissance dances and songs to sonatas from the European Baroque repertoire, featuring composers such as Telemann, Boismortier, Schickhardt, William Brade, and Erasmus Widmann. The festival thus highlights the ancient musical heritage, introducing the public in Piedmont to a genre of rare refinement.

Foglizzo can be reached by car via the SS460 del Canavese or the A4/A5 motorway, taking the exit towards Canavese. By train, the reference station is Chivasso, which is well-connected to Turin; from there, continue via local transport. The Castle is located at Via del Castello 6.
Admission to the Antiqua festival concerts is free. For information and reservations: [email protected].
It is often possible to visit the Castle before the concert. We recommend arriving early, given the limited capacity of the Council Chamber Hall.
