The traveling ANSPI oratory carnival arrives in Monteparano
The ANSPI Terra Ionica Carnival is a widespread festival that brings life to various towns in the province of Taranto every February with parade floats, music, and joy. Among the stops on the tour is Monteparano, a small town in the Salento part of the Ionian province, which hosts the parade in its squares, turning them into a colorful open-air stage for an afternoon of fun.
The event is promoted by the "San Giuseppe dal cuore castissimo" ANSPI oratory and club and is designed as a traveling festival that visits multiple Ionian towns on different days. This traveling format is the true hallmark of the carnival: the same floats, entertainment groups, and community of volunteers and youth from the oratory move from town to town, bringing the party directly to the streets and squares of the participating centers, including Monteiasi, San Giorgio Jonico, and Monteparano itself.
The 2026 edition, the fourth, is themed "The Land of Toys"โa title that evokes the fairy-tale imagery of carnival but carries a deeper meaning: the inspiration is the short film "The Butterfly Circus", a story of inner rebirth, resilience, and the ability to turn one's limitations into strengths. In Monteparano, the 2026 event took place in the afternoon, featuring a parade of floats accompanied by music, dancing, and activities for children and families.
One of the defining aspects of the Terra Ionica Carnival is its focus on inclusion. The festival involves local organizations such as the "Mi sueno latino" dance school and the "Diversamente giovani" association from San Giorgio Jonico, turning the parade into a moment of sharing open to everyone, without barriers. Masked fun thus becomes an opportunity for social interaction and community growth, in line with the educational mission of the organizing oratory.
With its floats, costumes, music, and games, the Terra Ionica Carnival is designed primarily for children and families. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of a typical village festival, where adults and children gather in the town center amidst confetti, masks, and entertainment. It is an event that strengthens the sense of belonging and identity of the Ionian towns.
Monteparano is one of the smallest towns in the province of Taranto, in Puglia, located on the border between the Ionian area and Salento, with historical ties to the Arbรซreshรซ communities of the nearby territory. For a town of this size, hosting a stop of the traveling carnival is an important moment of community life: the squares fill up, the town comes alive, and the carnival tradition finds new energy thanks to the commitment of the ANSPI club and its volunteers.
The Monteparano appointment for the 2026 edition of the ANSPI Terra Ionica Carnival was held on Saturday, February 15 at 3 PM in the town squares. The event, promoted by the "San Giuseppe dal cuore castissimo" ANSPI oratory and club, brought to town the floats and entertainment already seen in the stops at Monteiasi and San Giorgio Jonico.
The theme "The Land of Toys", inspired by the short film "The Butterfly Circus", served as the common thread for a festival that combined fun with a message of inclusion, featuring the participation of the "Mi sueno latino" dance school led by teacher Valentina Damiani and the "Diversamente giovani" association of San Giorgio Jonico.
The Monteparano stop of the ANSPI Terra Ionica Carnival takes place in the town's central squares. The 2026 edition was held on Saturday, February 15th, in the afternoon.
Monteparano can be reached by car via the state road connecting Taranto to Salento; the city of Taranto is about 20 km away. The reference train station is Taranto, from where you can continue by car or local transport.
Admission to the event is free.
