About Angelo Festival

Every last Sunday of July, the small village of Pelugo in Val Rendena celebrates its Angelo Patronal Festival, dedicated to the town's patron saint. It is the most cherished event of the year for the Giudicarie community: a day of faith and folk tradition that blends solemn religious celebrations with the convivial spirit of a mountain village fair, nestled in the Adamello-Presanella mountain group.

A village festival in the heart of Val Rendena

The Angelo Patronal Festival is the most important date on the calendar for Pelugo, a tiny village of a few hundred inhabitants perched at 675 meters above sea level in Val Rendena, within the Giudicarie Community of Trentino-Alto Adige. Every year, on the last Sunday of July, the village gathers around its patron saint for a day that weaves together religious devotion and community spirit, following a ritual passed down through generations.

Faith and folk tradition

The heart of the festival is the liturgical celebration in the parish church of San Zeno, followed by the social gatherings that have always accompanied mountain village festivals: a community lunch, reunions between local families, and welcoming those who return to Pelugo for the occasion. It is one of those authentic village festivals where the small scale of the town becomes a strength: everyone knows each other, everyone participates, and the tradition is renewed without fanfare.

The village of Pelugo and its heritage

Pelugo is best known for the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, a Romanesque jewel set in the landscape of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. It houses the precious 15th-century frescoes by Cristoforo Baschenis, an itinerant painter from Bergamo who, in 1474, left here the first evidence of the famous Baschenis dynasty in Rendena. Inside, the depiction of the Last Supper stands out as one of the most evocative in the valley. The patronal festival is therefore also an opportunity to rediscover a village with a rich artistic and religious heritage.

An encounter with the Trentino mountains

Experiencing the Angelo Patronal Festival means connecting with the Alpine tradition of the Giudicarie and the genuine hospitality of a mountain community. Pelugo's location, at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites and near the renowned towns of Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio, makes a visit the perfect opportunity to combine authentic local culture with a holiday in the nature of Western Trentino.
