The fair for aromatic herbs, flowers, and plants in the heart of the Susa Valley
In Almese, a small town in the lower Susa Valley in the province of Turin, spring is celebrated with An Aromatic Sunday, a Spring Festival created to showcase the local aromatic herbs, flowers, and plants. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Almese, transforms the town center into a widespread trail that connects nature, craftsmanship, and culture, inviting visitors to rediscover the ancient bond between humanity and the plant world.
The festival takes place across two historic sites in the town, connected by a path designed to be explored on foot at a leisurely pace. On one side, the evocative Ricetto di San Mauro, an ancient fortified complex hosting botanical exhibitions; on the other, Piazza Martiri della Libertà, the beating heart of the market and events. This creates a journey through nature and creativity, where each stop reveals a different aspect of Alpine aromatic culture.
The centerpiece is the themed market, bringing together producers, nurserymen, and exhibitors linked to the natural world. Among the stalls, you will find aromatic and medicinal herbs, herbal teas, edible and decorative flowers, ornamental plants, and a selection of processed products such as natural soaps, cosmetics, and other plant-based derivatives. It is an opportunity to engage directly with those who cultivate and process plants, discovering uses and secrets passed down through generations.
Beyond the market, ample space is reserved for art and culture, with collective exhibitions and displays dedicated to herbal traditions. There is also a food area managed by local businesses, featuring offerings inspired by the natural and aromatic theme. Workshops, exhibitions, and tastings round out a program designed for all ages, blending the popular appeal of a traditional fair with the more refined aspects of botanical culture.
An Aromatic Sunday is the result of collaboration between the Municipality of Almese, the Monte Musinè Commerce District, local businesses, and cultural associations, with the involvement of neighboring Susa Valley municipalities. It has quickly become a highly anticipated event in the Piedmontese spring calendar, attracting visitors, curious onlookers, and botany and nature enthusiasts to Almese.
The second edition of An Aromatic Sunday, promoted by the Municipality of Almese in collaboration with the Monte Musinè Commerce District, brought the town center to life on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, 2026. The event connected the Ricetto di San Mauro and Piazza Martiri della Libertà in a single itinerary blending nature, art, and taste, confirming the formula that led to the success of the first edition.
The widespread trail between the two locations allowed visitors to enjoy the event at a leisurely pace, alternating between the market atmosphere and the artistic and botanical exhibitions.
Almese is located in the lower Susa Valley, about 25 km from Turin. By car, it can be reached via the SS24 or the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway (Avigliana or Borgone exit). By train, the Turin-Modane line stops at stations in the valley, with bus connections to Almese.
Events are concentrated between the Ricetto di San Mauro and Piazza Martiri della Libertà, in the town center, both of which are accessible on foot.
Admission is free and open to everyone.
