Malo's multidisciplinary cultural review, featuring theatre, music, and performance
Amalo Festival is the main cultural event in Malo, a municipality in Alto Vicentino, in the province of Vicenza. Founded in 2021 on the initiative of the Municipal Department of Culture, the festival immediately adopted a widespread and multidisciplinary format: not a single evening, but a programme that unfolds over several months of the year, from spring to late autumn.
The title itself, Amalo, is a play on words: it contains the name of the city and the imperative 'amalo' (love it), an invitation to return to loving shared spaces, culture, and live encounters after the difficult years of the pandemic. From this idea, a review was born that focuses on community and participation.
The programme ranges from theatre for adults and children, concerts, dance, musicals, comedy, and exhibitions. It moves from classical music to contemporary research, from folklore to author talks. Performances are held in various locations in the area: the Cinema Aurora in the centre of Malo, historic villas and courtyards like Villa Checcozzi Carli Dalle Rive in the hamlet of Santomio, and outdoor spaces, with a travelling vocation that also brings events to the hamlets.
The sixth edition revolves around the theme 'Protagonisti sul Palco - L'energia che illumina il sipario' (Protagonists on Stage - The energy that illuminates the curtain), built on three values: strong artistic identities, cross-pollination of genres, and community involvement. The lineup features well-known names from the national scene, from journalist and presenter Piero Chiambretti to singer Mietta, and comedian Omar Fantini.
One of the distinctive features of Amalo Festival is its free admission: most events are free, in some cases up to capacity. This model has made the review a cultural reference point for Malo and the entire Alto Vicentino area.
The sixth edition of Amalo Festival unfolds throughout 2026 around the theme 'Protagonisti sul Palco' (Protagonists on Stage), based on strong artistic identities, cross-pollination of genres, and the involvement of the Malo community. The programme alternates author talks, music, and comedy, with events spread between the Aurora Cinema and the historic villas of the area. Alongside the main events, the festival offers entertainment and theatre for children in the hamlets.
