The largest crossover festival in South Tyrol
The Alpen Flair Festival is the largest open-air music event in South Tyrol, held every June on the apple-orchard plateau of Naz, a village in the municipality of Naz-Sciaves (Natz-Schabs), in the province of Bolzano. Founded in 2012 by the South Tyrolean band Frei.Wild, the festival has established itself in just over a decade as one of the most significant musical gatherings in the entire Alpine region, attracting over 40,000 spectators from Italy, Austria, and Germany.
The hallmark of Alpen Flair is its distinctly crossover approach: the stages feature an alternating lineup of rock, metal, metalcore, and punk bands alongside performers of folk music (Volksmusik), pop, and Schlager. It is rare to find international metal acts like Ice Nine Kills or Nothing More sharing a bill with folk groups like the Kastelruther Spatzen or party bands like Fäaschtbänkler. This variety, combined with the backdrop of the South Tyrolean mountains, makes the festival a community-driven, family-friendly event, quite different from large metropolitan festivals.
The festival takes place at the former NATO military base in Naz, a vast, flat area surrounded by the fruit orchards that define this part of the Isarco Valley. The event kicks off with a warm-up party in the center of Naz before moving to the main festival grounds, which are equipped with stages, camping facilities, food courts, and public amenities. Over the years, Alpen Flair has grown into the largest popular music festival in Northern Italy.
The event is organized by the company Hard Media, linked to the band Frei.Wild and specifically frontman Philipp Burger, in collaboration with the local community of Naz-Sciaves. Beyond the music, the festival serves as a major tourism driver for South Tyrol, attracting visitors who take the opportunity to explore the Isarco Valley, its apple orchards, and its traditions.
The 2026 edition of the Alpen Flair Festival was held from June 17 to 20, 2026, at the former NATO base in Naz, in the municipality of Naz-Sciaves (Province of Bolzano). The program reaffirmed the festival's crossover vocation, alternating metal, rock, punk, pop, and folk music.
Key performers of the 2026 edition included headliners Frei.Wild, the American band Ice Nine Kills, and Peter Maffay. Over twenty artists took the stage, including Eisbrecher, Unantastbar, Kastelruther Spatzen, Fäaschtbänkler, Lakeview, Lansdowne, Goitzsche Front, Drunken Swallows, Mountain Crew, and many others, in a lineup ranging from metalcore to Volksmusik.
