The Alpine folk music festival in Tiso, Val di Funes
The Teiser Tanzlmusigfest is one of the most iconic events dedicated to the traditional folk music of the Alpine region. It takes place in the small village of Tiso (Teis), nestled in the picturesque Val di Funes (Villnößtal), in the municipality of Funes/Villnöß, in the province of Bolzano, at the foot of the Odle mountains. The event, conceived and organized by the Musikkapelle Teis (the local village band), is considered a benchmark festival in South Tyrol for fans of Tanzlmusig and Volksmusik.
The history of the event dates back to 1997, when a few musicians from the Tiso band, driven by their passion for Alpine folk music, formed a permanent group: the Teiser Tanzlmusig, consisting of two flugelhorns, trombone, tuba, Styrian accordion, and harp. Their repertoire ranges from lively marches and polkas to waltzes, ländler, traditional dances, and yodels, drawing on compositions by authors such as Gottlieb Weißbacher, Peter Moser, and Hermann Pallhuber. From the enthusiasm of that group, the Teiser Tanzlmusigfest was born in the early 2000s, quickly becoming a one-of-a-kind appointment in South Tyrol.
The festival is held on the spacious Festplatz in Tiso, the festival meadow in the heart of the village. The day traditionally opens with a field mass (Feldmesse) celebrated on the meadow, followed by the morning Frühschoppen featuring performances by various guest ensembles. Throughout the day, groups of Tanzlmusig and Volksmusik from South Tyrol and neighboring Alpine regions, including Austria and Bavaria, take turns on stage. Over the years, the festival has hosted renowned ensembles, often featured on radio and television, such as Franz Posch und seine Innbrüggler, Herbert Pixner, and the Steirische, alongside groups like the Südtiroler Lausbuam and the Tegernseer Tanzlmusi.
Beyond the music, the Teiser Tanzlmusigfest is an opportunity to discover one of the most authentic corners of Trentino-Alto Adige. Val di Funes is world-renowned for its panoramic views of the Odle and for its villages, which have kept South Tyrolean rural and musical traditions intact. Every year, the event attracts visitors not only from the province of Bolzano but also from nearby Austrian and German territories, united by a shared passion for the folk music of the Alps.
The Teiser Tanzlmusigfest 2026 returns to the Festplatz in Tiso (Teis), in Val di Funes, with its customary atmosphere dedicated to Alpine folk music. The calendar of the Municipality of Funes/Villnöß indicates the main day on Saturday, September 5, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM, while the Musikkapelle Teis lists the dates from September 4 to 6.
As per tradition, the festival will feature live folk music with various Tanzlmusig and Volksmusik ensembles, South Tyrolean culinary specialties, and a convivial open-air atmosphere. The detailed program, including the list of guest groups and precise timings, will be announced by the organizers closer to the event.
