The Ali Terme Carnival is a popular festival that brings the Ionian coastal spa town in the province of Messina to life in the heart of winter. Organized by the Municipality of Ali Terme, the event fills the streets with masks, music, and entertainment, transforming the town center and the seafront into a stage of color, confetti, and joy designed for both adults and children.
The Ali Terme Carnival is, above all, a community celebration: families, children, and masked groups gather in the squares and along the town's streets to share moments of play and fun. The entertainment, music, and costumes are the heart of a day designed to engage all generations, in the informal and welcoming atmosphere typical of small towns on the Ionian coast.
Ali Terme is a small town in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily, overlooking the Ionian Sea. Renowned since ancient times for its thermal waters and its approximately three-kilometer-long pebbled coastline, it is a popular destination for sea, wellness, and its palm-lined promenade. The Carnival is part of the local calendar of traditions, which culminates in summer with the heartfelt Festa Grande in honor of Saint Agatha, the patron saint of the Ali community alongside Saint Leo.
With its masquerade parades, musical moments, and entertainment, the Ali Terme Carnival is one of the most anticipated events of the winter season for the local community. It is an opportunity to rediscover the pleasure of a village festival, where the streets of the town become the backdrop for a day dedicated to smiles and conviviality.
At the moment, the Municipality of Ali Terme has not yet published the dates and program for the 2026 Carnival. Based on previous editions, the festival is expected to return during the Carnival period, between late February and early March, with the usual masquerade parades, music, and entertainment for all ages along the town's streets and the seafront. Details on dates, routes, and initiatives will be communicated by the Municipality closer to the event.
The Carnival events take place in the town center and along the seafront of Ali Terme (ME), Sicily.
By car: The A18 Messina-Catania motorway, taking the Roccalumera exit, is the most convenient route; the town can then be reached via the SS114 Ionian road. By train: The Ali Terme station is on the Messina-Catania-Syracuse railway line, with regional train stops.
