Two days of grass peas, Piacentino Ennese cheese, and rural traditions in the Erei Mountains
The Aidone Ancient Flavors Festival is the event that the Municipality of Aidone dedicates to the agri-food excellence of its territory. It takes place in the heart of the village, in Piazza Filippo Cordova, transforming alleys and squares into a path of flavors, aromas, and traditions. Launched in 2025, the festival has already become a highly anticipated late-June appointment, capable of combining the promotion of typical products with entertainment for families and visitors.
Aidone stands at approximately 890 meters above sea level, in the Erei Mountains, in the province of Enna, in the geographical heart of Sicily. It is famous for the nearby Morgantina archaeological site and the Archaeological Museum that houses the Goddess of Morgantina and the Acroliths. It is in this context of millennial history that the festival rediscovers local agricultural and gastronomic culture, made of ancient legumes, cheeses, and oil.
The festival offers cheese tasting workshops with certified ONAF tasters, extra virgin olive oil workshops, show cooking curated by Slow Food Enna and the Enna Chefs Association, talks dedicated to traditions and De.Co. products, as well as craft and food stands. The evening gives way to live music, itinerant performances, and cabaret, with the timeless charm of the village alleys serving as a backdrop.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Aidone in collaboration with local associations, producers, and artisans, and is funded by the Regional Department of Agriculture of the Sicilian Region. Admission to stands, workshops, and shows is free.
Following the success of the 2025 debut, the Aidone Ancient Flavors Festival returns for its second edition on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Piazza Filippo Cordova in Aidone, province of Enna. The event, curated by councilor Guglielmo Cultreri and promoted by the Municipality of Aidone with the support of the Regional Department of Agriculture, confirms its goal of promoting local culinary excellence.
The protagonists remain the Aidone grass pea, an ancient legume at risk of extinction, the Piacentino Ennese PDO, and the territory's extra virgin olive oils. The two days will alternate tastings, workshops dedicated to cheeses and oil, show cooking, typical product stands, live music, and cabaret. Admission is free.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including times, artists, and guests, will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the festival.
