About Addio do Fantin

In August, San Salvatore di Cogorno (Metropolitan City of Genoa) returns to the Middle Ages with the Addio do Fantin, a historical reenactment of Count Opizzo Fieschi's bachelor party on the eve of his wedding. On the parvis of the scenic Fieschi Basilica, banquets, medieval dances, flag games, falconry, and duels take place in a festival that anticipates the famous Torta dei Fieschi of Lavagna.

The Fieschi Family Festival

The Addio do Fantin is a historical reenactment held in San Salvatore di Cogorno, a hamlet of the municipality of Cogorno in the Metropolitan City of Genoa. The event, established in 1982, reenacts the bachelor party of Count Opizzo Fieschi on the eve of his wedding, traditionally celebrated in the 13th century. It is closely linked to the powerful Genoese Fieschi family, which gave the Church two popes, and serves as a prelude to the famous Torta dei Fieschi in Lavagna.

The Fieschi Basilica

The stage is one of Liguria's most evocative locations: the Fieschi Basilica, built starting in 1244 under papal patronage, a masterpiece of Ligurian Gothic architecture. The atmosphere of the Middle Ages is recreated on its parvis, with the village transformed into a period market populated by merchants, artisans, falconers, and musicians.

Banquets, Dances, and Weapon Games

The program alternates between 'Middle Ages in the Village' — with the reconstruction of the medieval village — and the grand noble banquet on the parvis, featuring dishes with medieval inspiration and scenic demonstrations of falconry, juggling, and sword fights. Groups of musicians, flag wavers, and dancers perform choreographies reconstructed from 15th-century dance manuals. The event, an 'Autentico Ligure' (Authentic Ligurian) event cataloged by the Ministry of Culture, is a journey back in time in the heart of Tigullio.

Addio do Fantin — edition 2026

On August 12 and 13, 2026, San Salvatore di Cogorno hosts the Addio do Fantin: on the 12th, the village becomes a medieval village with merchants, artisans, and falconers; on the 13th, the grand noble banquet on the parvis of the Fieschi Basilica, with medieval dances, flag games, and duels.

The 2026 edition of Addio do Fantin takes place on August 12 and 13. The reenactment transforms the village of San Salvatore di Cogorno into a medieval setting, culminating in Count Fieschi's banquet on the Basilica's parvis.
